The Latin Corner Your Favourite Phrases/Sayings

Discussion in 'The Lounge' started by Cacian, Jan 22, 2012.

I enjoy reading expressions especially Latin ones.
    These I found

Lorem Ipsum ( I am still trying tounderstand its real meaning/usage)
    and
"De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" of Cicero's which reads ''The Extreme of Good and Evil''

    My old school motto:
    Ad Veritatem Per Caritatem
    "to truth through love".

^^ Partly. My kids aren't scared to tell me what they've been up to because they know any objections I make are reasonable and because I love them, but they make up excuses when they talk to their father because he plays the bad cop all the time. But this is maybe too specific an example. I think good, and love, is stronger than bad, in spite of all the bad things that go on in the world--and the pessimists on this forum! But I'm talking more about the human spirit here, not romantic love, which I must say I think is pretty fleeting.

    Agreed.
I do somehow tend to think reality can be tricky and hence me thinking
    to truth through courage:p
I know from gowingup , teenage time and anxs, and other factors telling the truth can be draining especially if the receptor are not very good at taking it.
So many might skip truth and tell lies to avoid conflict althoug from being mature one now knows it is better to tell it as it is no matter what.

    cogito ergo sum
[in its originator's native tongue: 'Je pense, donc je suis.']

somehow the word 'dare' always flashes idea of something audacious with a twist of nastiness in it, don't know why.

what does the truth prevail from?

it's a bit facetious... i'm making the point that because i 'am' i thus choose to think...

in other words, i consider it my responsibility to think, rather than it being merely an automatic aspect of 'being'...

as a full time philosopher [my 'day job' ;-) ], i firmly believe sentient beings should make the most of their gift of sentience by using it to give thought to [question] all that they and their fellow sentient beings do...
