When I first got here I was a cicada: Now I'm apparently a Rabbi. Strange how time can change us. Perhaps you're in larval form now...
Heh, some days I damn sure don't feel like an adult. I like to think I've just gone through an extended caterpillarhood, and I'm getting ready to grow some wings. But I'll still stay an Ant till I die. Gotta know who you are.
Why are there so many Metallica covers this month? All of these just came out. The Hu are awesome. Mongolian metal. Ghost croons a bit, as Ghost is wont to do, but then it picks up properly. Kamasi Washington is such a Chad. The track falls into jazz-metal-fusion in waves. You have to pay attention to the drums, which are cool as hell.
Because it's the 30th anniversary of the Black album. Check this out: I was impressed. Hadn't heard Miley since her Hannah Montanna days, aside fom looking briefly into her bad girl punk-out days like watching a train crash, and I didn't realize her voice now sounds like she gargles bleach with broken razor blades in it. I don't care for her singing much at the beginning or the end*, but in the middle of the song she kicked my ass massively. * When I say this I make a distinction between her voice itself, that perfect death-croak that sounds as eerie as Marianne Faithful in the other Metallica song, and her actual singing, the vocals and the melody of them. I just thought the opening and closing parts sounded a little flat on the vocals, as if singing so deep made it impossible for her to have any finesse, but when she went up a bit in pitch her voice became agile and flexible enough to get in some real singing.
And of course some time ago they did a team-up with lady Gaga: She sure moves better than Miley. Not sure her singing quite reached the same level, though I know the Lady is an amazing singer. The Metallica performance itself sounded way better here than on Howard Stern, where it was like a stripped-down MTV Unplugged kind of thing.
I've always preferred Megadeth to Metallica. I see the important first 4 albums this way. Killing is My Business > Kill 'em All Peace Sells == Ride the Lightning So Far So Good < Master of Puppets Rust in Peace > And Justice for All But lately I've been on a Metallica kick. I even tried listening to newer material! (that didn't last long and the effort was abandoned) Here are my top 5 Metallica tracks. (I feel bad skipping the other choices. There are another 15 that are close behind. Man, they had quality.) #5 #4 #3 #2 #1
I could go either way. Megadeth guitar songs are much more fun to play than Metallica, though. And waaaayyyyy harder.
