My dad loved Glen Campbell, Gentle on My Mind especially. I inherited much of parents’ musical tastes and I’m grateful for that.
An unbelievably powerful performance, both vocally and physically, by Danielle Schnebelen with Trampled Underfoot. The guitarist is her brother, and I think the drummer is too (they really look alike). And they're all really good at playing the blues, but she completley steals the show. How do you follow an act like that? The guitar solo is messed up for a few notes when it comes in, but he finds it and then it's on baby!
Extremely creative. I love the visual trick where the drummer transferred the rhythm from the cymbal down to the floor and into her feet. Those are tricks you used to see in the days when television was new and people were coming from Vaudeville and Broadway (theater/stage magic). Simple, effective and memorable. You don't see things done like that anymore.
Was listening to Sweet Jane by the Velvet Underground today. Lou Reed wrote the song as a surrealist look at the life of a rock star. Listening, I was immediately reminded of Marinade by Dope Lemon.
Just read someone referring to this as the best performance at Woodstock - Ten Years After - I'm Going Home
Always makes me think of the beginning of Blues Brothers 2000. The song may be the only good thing about the movie.
