My guess is New York, that's where I think Allie Sherlock usually performs, but I'm just assuming. I don't know who the redhead is or where she's from, but she's really excellent too, and she totally killed it. The accent sounds European? Russian maybe? No clue. I just checked on the second video, and it was recorded in Dublin.
Ok, it really doesn't look like New York. Turns out Allie Sherlock is Irish, so I guess that's where most or all of her videos are done. Yep. Mostly on Grafton Street in Dublin. Source. Still know next to nothing about the witch girl.
Lol if you look at the second video, right between their heads is a sign saying Brown Thomas Dublin. D'oh!
A lot of them probably make lots of money busking. Plus Allie has 4 albums out and several eps listed on her wiki page (the Source link a couple posts above).
Here's an even better take on this one: Absolutely killin' it!! I think this chick is Brazilian, not sure. At least she does some Brazilian songs, and her accent is very strong. This makes it Halloween for me.
I like this song. Reminds me of St. Vincent, which apparently Youtube commentators agree with (it's the solo the seals it). So I'll add St. Vincent. I like that album she did with David Byrne. She kind of looks like him in a quirky, girlish way. If he had a daughter, I guess.
As it would happen, I saw St. Vincent and David Byrne several hours apart at Bonnaroo '09. Both great shows. The crowd was pretty skimpy at St. Vincent, unfortunately. I guess she hadn't really caught on yet. I actually talked to her for all of two seconds later that day. I saw her walking with her two bandmates a while after the show. The whole conversation was "St. Vincent, that was a great show!" then "Thanks!" with a wave. A neat performance of one off her first album. I still like her early stuff. Some of the guitar work in the first half of this reminds me of an early Cobain or something. It's so raw.
That song (Your Lips are Red) reminds me a bit of 'Possum King's by the Toadies. I don't know a lot of St. Vincent's discography but I've always liked this song especially the unexpected riffs halfway in:
A couple of my favorite Rolling Stones songs: And my favorite story about them—Kieth Richards worshipped Chuck Berry's music, and studied it extensively. It was the basis of just about all his guitar licks as I understand it. They never met, until both bands were at some music festival and Kieth knew Chuck was there, so went looking for him. He wanted to tell him how much he loved his music. But the moment they encountered each other, Chuck punched him in the face and told him to quit copying him. Kieth considered it a blessing and talks about it with great pride.
If there was a "love" button, I'd click it. Love the power and the emotion. Reminiscent of Janis Joplin.
