I never heard that song, kind of reminds me of Sheena Easton for some reason. But this will be always be my 'Hot Summer Night' song:
Summer music for the soul. Here's Charlotte Church performing "The Last Rose of Summer". A traditional Irish elegy, sung by an Welsh woman in Jerusalem, with accompaniment from the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and a Jewish uilleann pipe player. "What a wonderful world this can be", as Sam Cooke sang once.
This one's just a joy. Such a great song, not often heard these days, and Elizabeth's reactions make you appreciate it way more. She brings up things you never noticed before, or didn't know existed. Plus it's just a great live version of the song.
The cool thing about a good reactor is that it's like someone hearing something you've loved for a long time, but to them it's the first time (supposedly). It's like seeing a movie or hearing a song with somebody who's brand new to it, and it brings back the feels like the first time all over again. And with somebody like Elizabeth she also shows you new things to be amazed about, so she brings new levels of appreciation.
Not really, but maybe you can help me out. I've never been big on electronic. I spent a lot of time at clubs and raves twenty years ago and had several DJ friends but never really got all that into the music, honestly. I had a few favorites like Alice Deejay, Daft Punk, Moby, Fatboy Slim, stuff like that and enjoyed club versions of several pop songs from the era. All these years later, I have a 10-year-old son, and though I've tried to raise him right on jazz, classic rock and indie music, he says he prefers electronic. Recently, I let him pick the music on the Alexa, and he wanted to hear Minecraft music, for God's sake. I talked him into listening to some Paul Oakenfold instead. Oakenfold was a favorite of a close friend years ago. My son loved it! We listened to it for an hour or two, and it was much better than video game music. So, as a fan of electronic music, would you have any suggestions for me to feed him?
That's sort of what I was hoping to avoid by asking an electronic fan in the first place. I figured you'd have some favorites, things you thought were worth listening to. Never mind, I guess.
I remember their song 'Fire Woman' (and I think this one too) but I was too into metal at the time to really appreciate them. But I liked Danzig, which now that I think about it was only a few degrees separated. Anyways, I'm not gonna lie, when I saw the thumbnail for the video on my smartphone, I thought it was Michael Bolton and 'The Tale of Jack Sparrow'.
Oh wow, the Rachel Flowers documentary is finally on YouTube for free. Apparently it's been there for 9 months, but I just found it now. She's a musical prodigy, blind since shortly after birth and autistic. I posted a few of her videos in this thread a year or two ago, and I think I posted a trailer for this doco. Well, here's the whole thing:
Wow! Awesome to run across this. I like watching tutorial vidoes even though I dont' play (anymore) and never got very good at all. Right at the beginning suddenly I understand some of this talk about G7 and G5 and all that—it just means the string and the fret. Simple. Or I think it is anyway, could still be off. I cut off most of his incessant jabber at the beignning. And I just noticed—shave this dude's head and he's Walter White, even down to the way you can see his bottom teeth frequently, like he's pissed off. Actually, this is even better: Straight to the point, no jibber-jabber.
