I only check out bands based upon either A) Their name (if it sounds cool, I'll check it out, like Godsmack for example) B) Review (I just go on Amazon and read the reviews) C) If they're similar to a band I already like D) If I heard a song on the album and I liked it
Like Squirrel Nut Zippers, maybe? Ghost of Stephen Foster. Or something a little more traditional, like Benny Goodman... Sing, Sing, Sing.
Hmmm... Maybe C'est la vie By Jerry lee Lewis? Or Johnny be good? (Or those even swing songs? LOL well they're who i thought of when you said Aristocats, anyway)
Muse are apparently bringing out a new album towards the back end of this year or the beginning of next. Excellent news for fans such as myself, who have waited since 2006 for a new one.
Right now, I have James hetfield ordering me to bow down and sell my soul to him. Oh james, you can have me mind body and soul anytime Too bad it's just 'Judas Kiss' from Death Magnetic.
Lmao. Ohhhhh matt knows i have a massive crush on james hetfield. he'd just say 'That james, what a kidder. Aaaw, tell her i love her! '
"The Irony of Dying On Your Birthday" - Senses Fail. "Undead" - Hollywood Undead "The Blood of Cu Chulainn" - Mychael and Jeff Danna
No problemo - glad I was able to help in some way. Music is one thing I do love to share and *cough* wax lyrical about. My musical exploits this week have been a mix of the old and the new: Adem - Takes Dave Gahan - Hourglass Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova - The Swell Season Ophelia of the Spirits - Self Titled (EP) PJ Harvey - Stories From the City, Stories from the Sea
Alright, another question. As a 15 year old, I was not around at the time of the great "Classic rock" artists and bands. I'm more into Breaking Benjamin, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, you the kind. I have a few classic rock songs, but not many. My friend, however, only listens to "classic" rock, mainly from the 60s-70s. He and his dad consider 60s-70s classic rock, while my dad and I consider 60s-80s classic rock. Regardless, my main point is to ask what you think are some of the greatest classic rock bands and songs that a rock fanatic should listen to? Keep in mind that I consider classic rock 60s-80s. From what I've heard, I like Queen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith, and Guns N' Roses, but still only have a few songs each.
Ok, I have the need for some rock/orchestral. This is for my story so I have something relevant to write to. It needs to be big, cool, and sound like what you'd hear in the last few seconds of a film before the credits roll. Any ideas?
I'm only 18, so if any classic rock gurus disagree, I'm only saying what's good enough for me. I'm rather fond of guys like Black Sabbath, Elton John, the Chili Peppers... and bands like Queen and Aerosmith. You might also try Eric Johnson (half of his songs have words), Joe Satriani (almost none of his songs have words)... I'm not really a genre freak, so I never know for certain which artists belong in which genres. Interestingly enough, I only got into those first two on my list thanks to Grand Theft Auto 4. So nobody can say that the game is totally evil.
Scorpions, The Cramps, Stray Cats, Uriah Heep, Thin Lizzy, and yes, Joe Satriani. I haven't delved into a lot of the obscure bands, but these are some of the more popular ones to start you off.
Oh man, the Scorpions! There are so many yuo could name. All on personal taste i guess (Back with an era where you could pick a crowd who all had different taste)
There are two modern songs that I'm listening to currently: Lady GaGa's "Just Dance" and Lily Allen's "The Fear", I like the former because she seems like a nice person who has yet to get into any major controversy, and I like the latter because her songs always sounds somewhat pleasant, but the lyrics are nearly always incredibly sinister (But they also always carry some sort of message). A good portion of my songs I got from things like video games and DVD soundtracks, specifically "Still Alive" by Lisa Miskovsky (A wonderfully "bouncy" piece of music, the main theme of Mirror's Edge), "Guilty" by Anna Tsuchiya (Credits song from Resident Evil Degeneration. I like it because I think its catchy, even if the music appears to be a bit "emo" style) and the intro for Resident Evil Outbreak (No specific name, but its a very haunting piece of music. If only I could find a copy on the internet I could buy) A majority of my songs are from the 60s and 70s era, I'm a big fan of The Beatles and I've heard a few songs by the Marvelettes (That hardly qualifies me as a fan of 60s music, but there are many more bands I won't list here for sake of conserving the length of this post) To round off my collection, I have a collection of TV theme songs that I listen to occasionally, "Through the Night" by Arimachi Masahiko (Theme from Outlaw Star), "Danse Macabre" by Saint Saens (Theme from Jonathan Creek) and "Who I Am" by Jessica Andrews (Sue Thomas F.B.Eye theme music)
Along with the other suggestions, I would include The Doors, Cream, Them, George Thorogood (s/p?), Hawkwind, Jethro Tull, Eagles, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, Bob Dylan... Then there's classic "hair metal" - Cinderella, Ratt, Skid Row, Queensryche, W.A.S.P. ... A great Aussie metal band from the 80's was Mortal Sin. Also try, Ashes Divide - they're new, but they have a real classic metal feel to them. If you want something with a more alternative, punk-bent, try Suicidal Tendencies and/or Dead Kennedys. (My mother had hundreds of classic rock albums, and I grew up in the 80's so I have a virtual neverending list of recommendations if you need more ). Tool have some great instrumentals, particularly on Lateralus. If you don't mind having vocals, check out an awesome band named Black Mountain - very epic rock (think Black Sabbath, modernised, I guess). Also see above... and if you need any more rec's, I'll see what I can do.
I like Britney Spears Yeah, she is a scantily clad commercial train-wreck with clinical depression... but I just happen to find that appealing in a pop star. And I really like the song 'Break the Ice' because it stimulates my temporal lobe in such a way that I feel all warm and fuzzy.
