Ok, it took me three whole years to get out of Rage Against the Machine, but only three minutes last night to get back IN. "I'm Calm Like A Bomb!"
Honestly, I thought Death Magnetic was weaker (in terms of quality) than St. Anger. And St. Anger was painful for me to listen to; that harsh Ping! of the snare drum refused to let me pay attention to anything else.
I followed these guys like a religion back in the 90's (Saw them plat thew whole easy coast of Australia when they were out). Great live band. Mate told me their going back into the recording studios soon as well... we need MORE RATM.
Haha they were my favourite band when I was thirteen confused: don't ask me, I just run the place) and I slipped out of them in the last few years. Then I found my collection of albums last night and haven't stopped listening to them since. (I keep trying to spell "listening" like "listenening". WTFrak?)
I have sinned I am seeing Pink with my mum Yes, Mr Metal is seeing Pink.....with his mum...... I have sinned. Anyway. I made her day, and that makes me happy. And as much as i hate pop, i actually think Pink pretty much passes as okay..
Can we talk about any kind of music? I'm particularily annoyed with alot of movie music scores these days. Alot of them use the easy way out with chorus all the time. It wouldn't be so bad if all of the different themes they used sounded unique but it feels like I hear the same song in every movie. I've always felt that chorus was a cheap way to make a song better though (though I'm fine if the song only has chorus in bits and pieces) I'm fine with opera though, usually movies do a good job of providing a variety of it that actually sounds decent. Bah maybe I'm being too picky.
It's cool- I've been a metal fan as long as I remember, own hundreds of metal albums, in everything from Nightwish and Metallica to Arsis and Opeth... and to my horror have experienced a growing love for French pop in recent days. Listening to different types of music is almost always a good thing. My friends won't stop teasing me though.
hyperknees91: I don't really like movie scores, because it seems so many of them just want to be Holst or Orff. I do love opera though- mostly because Wagner is my favourite composer.
Heh some are alright when they try to be unique. I also like listen to a variety of music. Kamelot being my favorite band (though I don't really favor bands to one another rather I just pick out songs I like). But as I said before I'm into metal (no screamo though),opera, jazz, techno, game music, jpop, and lot's of orchestral soundtracks. No reason to be in horror of like different music varieties, as long as it suits your fancy you should just embrace and enjoy. I've always had trouble liking rock though and I probably never will really care for much of it. I think the only songs I've liked came from (all those famous old school rock that I don't have to name, think acdc) fuel and staind. That's about it though.
I once tried my hand at music. The result convinced me that the discipline of writing is much more suited to my particular set of skills than the discipline of music. That being said, I love listening to music. Rock is my favorite, rock and metal. Old stuff like The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Blue Oyster Cult and the rest intermingle with Judas Priest, The Sword and Candlemass. With a bit of Mastodon and other such stuff thrown in for good measure
I actually think it's really cool. I like music from almost every genre I come across, even the normally reviled rap and country, but I usually hate pop- I prefer music that's loud, fast, and creative so I tend to listen mostly to progressive and metal. Yet now my play list is being taken over by acts like Alizée and Myléne Farmer, which is about as far as it gets from what I usually like. Yet, I still can`t listen to North American pop music. My friends tease I might become a Montreal Canadiens fan, which is enough to horrify any sane person. I only like a few modern rock acts, but I like lots of classic ones, especially Deep Purple, the Eagles and Jethro Tull. And Rush of course. I`m also a fan of Kamelot- Epica`s my favourite album by them but I like most of their stuff with Roy Khan.
I love all types of rock: hard rock, classic rock, metal, punk, screamo; the only genre of rock I don't like is when the songs are all screaming. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind screaming in songs, but not if that's the whole song. I don't really like pop, and I absolutely hate rap. I generally like music where you have to analyze the lyrics.
I dislike rap and country and reggae, in general. I do love Johnny Cash and Matisyahu though, Matisyahu being the only reggae/rap act I can tolerate.
I'll listen to anything but two genres Any rap thats produced after 1995 and anything that is considered partly emo Everything else it'll try. Other then metal im LOVE opera, blues/jazz and im getting into some country.. Johnny Cash hets better with every listen.
Taverns DJ thread (or whatever its called) Been listening to them for years. But i prefer traqditional Opera, but neo classical opera and metal opera is fine of course.
Yay finally a concert worth going too Trivium (yeah okay, seen them half a dozen times), Black Tide (sweet), AND Heaven Shall burn.....never seen them, So im there!!!!
Does anyone know of some great metal bands that don't scream the whole time? I don't mind screaming as long as it's not the entire song. Some of my favorite metal bands would be Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Trivium, and Disturbed. I also like some of Slipknot and Bullet for my Valentine's songs.
Symphony X, Stratovarius, Sonata Arctica, Dream Theater, Iced Earth, Ayreon, Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, Evergrey, Helloween, Kamelot, mid to late Therion, Nightwish, Epica, After Forever, Tobias Sammet/Avantasia/Edguy, and Within Temptation are good places to start. Also, do yourself a favour and check out Opeth. Yes, there's screaming at points, but they're probably the best band in metal right now and the album Damnation has no screaming at all, but if you want a better feel for them check out My Arms Your Hearse and Blackwater Park. Also, it's all screaming but A Diamond for Disease by Arsis may just be the single most \m/ song ever written.
AGreed with above (esp the bit on Opeth) Godsmack and Nevermore dont really scream for the most part. You could probably check out carcass to a small degree (im not sure if your over scrwaming or you just dont like the screamo ((like suicide silence)) genre) Carcass are grindcore. Have some scrwaming, but its different On another note, just brought tickets to see Trivium and Heaven SHall Burn. Should be fun. Never had then chanc eto see HSB before.
I don't mind screamo (I like Escape the Fate) and I don't mind screaming in songs. But when I can't understand the words and the song is all growling and roaring then I don't like it. If only the verses or only the chorus is screamed and the rest is sung or whatever I'm fine.
Uh, wow, most of those aren't really metal, but more modern rock. Check out the classic bands like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Grim Reaper and Scorpions. I would avoid Opeth, as they really are not good, and also Nevermore as they are pretty damn wretched themselves - but if you have to, go ahead, other people seem to like them for some inconceivable reason. I will second Symphony X, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius and Edguy though. Kamelot and Helloween, too, great bands. For the life of me though, I'll never understand why people don't like songs when they can't understand the words. It just doesn't register with me.
If I can't understand the words because it's in another language, I don't mind. If I can't understand the words because the "singer" is screaming and growling his little heart out, I don't like it because it sounds absolutely horrible.
