Europe is about to experience hell, so says Business Insider. Full details in article linked below. https://www.msn.com/en-ie/news/world/hell-is-coming-western-europe-braces-for-its-hottest-weather-since-a-2003-heat-wave-killed-15000-people-in-france/ar-AADrXQo?li=BBr5KbJ&ocid=mailsignout In a nutshell, it's going to be very hot in some places and just hot in others.
business insider are full of shit - you can't believe anything they write imo - its just a thinly disguised advert for investments the only other paper carrying this story is the daily express who are forever inaccurately banging on about hottest summer and coldest winters this is the eu weather centre deviation from average map for july from http://effis.jrc.ec.europa.eu/applications/seasonal-forecast/
I can tell Business Insider isn't serious based on where it pops up. Like the bottom of my google homepage on my tablet. Anytime anyone has paid for a "suggested post" you can tell they're full of shit.
A giant 660 square miles of ice is expected to break away from Antarctica soon. "Two large cracks in the shelf have been inching further open over the past few years. When they finally intersect, a berg about 660 square miles wide and almost 500 feet thick will be released into the ocean—where it will eventually melt, joining its brethren in adding more water to the world’s oceans and pushing global sea levels a tiny bit higher." https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2019/03/huge-chunk-brunt-ice-break-off-antarctica/
Hmm...mod hat resting on the desk where I can reach it. I'm aware of the issues of climate change and sea level rise, but let's try and keep this thread more directed to immediate events affecting (or not) membership. Sort of like Facebook's "Checked-in safe" function. Now, if @Lifeline is onboard that ice shelf, it's another matter entirely.
Hah, you wish! But that would indeed be something... to be not only the first WF member in the Antarctic, but also the first drifting with an iceberg Alas, it'll not be .
its going to be a tiny bit wet tomorrow in devon - this is not in anyway a natural disaster but the press seem to think that the end times are upon us
That crack in the ice? Who dunnit? Was it you? Show me your hands! Where did you put your crowbar? Was it you? Who dunnit? Where was you between 2018 and 2019? Confess now! Was it you? Who dunnit?
" @Lifeline, on the ice shelf, with a pickaxe!" (While playing Clue, shouting, "J'accuse!" before guessing the murderer makes things a lot more fun, by the way.)
Nobody, literally nobody on the planet: …. Lifeline: "I'm going to use a crowbar to rip off a huge chunk of Antarctica."
Update as of 15 minutes prior to posting this: Dorian is currently a Cat 2 and is scheduled to become a Cat 3 "or greater Major" hurricane. Predicted landfall if it remains at current trajectory / strength: Southeastern Florida or East Coast states by Monday or Tuesday as a potential Cat 4. At present, all of Florida is in the "cone of uncertainty". It looks like for now, thus far the trajectory takes it North of Puerto Rico, so hopefully they're out of harm's way. Currently all the spaghetti models have it missing Puerto Rico. The damn thing is moving slowly (slow=gathers intensity), and the water's very warm, so...stay tuned.
Yeah, me and Lady J are staying hopeful for Lady S + Fam, that it goes south or north of where she is in Florida. Though they are prepping, water, plywood, and stuff in case it hits their area hard.
Sending them good vibes. I'm hoping the damn thing avoids Florida. The European spaghetti model has it completely bypassing the area of my (mom's) house, but the strongest American spaghetti model goes right through. Go Europe!!! By the way, I'd post the current NOAA weather map of it, but I'm too dyslexic for such shenanigans today. ETA: Update 5PM EST: The Bahamas are now under a hurricane warning.
Sending you good vibes, @Bone2pick . Stay safe. Really glad I decided not to go to Florida until later...
Dorian Update: I just got a NOAA alert that as of 11AM EST Dorian "has strengthened into a 150MPH storm, nearing Category 5 intensity." Just last night at 9PM it hit Cat 4 at 130MPH. This storm is nothing to fuck around with. They'd already said more flooding, more inland than is usual with a hurricane, will be likely. I really hope people pay attention and evacuate and don't try to ride it out. Most of the the previous hurricanes we've had weren't as slow and hovering as this one seems to be. With hurricanes, slower is often more ominous. Early this morning CNN reported (presumably from NOAA information) that most of the models are now including Georgia and the Carolinas in the possible landfall area. All of Florida is still in the Cone of Uncertainty.
