I hadn't heard this yet. He wrote beautifully. There was a uniquely lyrical, and yet down to earth (so to speak) quality to his prose. In any event, he lives on through his writing.
I also just heard about Ray Bradbury. Really sad, he was a great writer. In other news, 6 exams down, 9 to go. It feels like I'm taking exams at a conveyor belt... I'm kind of tired.
Well, my hearing aid mold broke. Basically, the mold is the thing you put in your ear that's part of the hearing aid, and that's broken now. I'm trying to get it fixed, but if I can't, I'll have to wait until July 11th (the date of the appointment to get it replaced) having to carefully put that hearing aid in and out of my ear without totally destroying the mold all together. So, I'm just sitting here without the hearing aid, in near total silence. It's okay, but it's still irritating to not be able to hear most everything. 8[ I can hear really loud noises without my hearing aid, but you'd have to either speak inches from my only good ear or shout for me to hear you.
That really sucks, Link. Hopefully you get it fixed soon. And yeah, sad news about Ray Bradbury. I love his writing style.
I hate that I'm so oblivious sometimes! I had the window open in my parents room where our computer is. I started to notice some little bugs flying around me but I didn't care. About 10 minutes later I swerve around in my chair and about a 100+ tiny little green bugs are flying around the room!! My sister is still trying to kill them. I admit it's my fault. Edit: All of the bugs are now long gone. And, funny experiences make for the best stories.
Urgh, so I have to take one class next semester to finish my degree...One class! I could die. I'm trying to convince myself this is good in that it gives me time to write but I know what's going to happen. I say I'll do something constructive with the time but I'll just end up sleeping in, eating chocolate, drinking Coke and re-watching the West Wing for the fortieth time. And to top things off, my part-time job is being replaced by computers so I'm now relegated to the dark depths of customer service.
Nothing major at all, but still pissed off. I bought sausages specifically me ME a week ago, and guess what they have been devoured by someone other than me. I’m really angry because I don’t eat much, but I like what I like, and that’s for MY food to be left the hell alone. (i even told her – multiple time) Partner has no idea what I’m angry. If I ate her chocolate that time of the month, she’d understand in a snap.
Ah, I know how that feels. With all these siblings around I need to keep my food close. Maybe you should try eating her chocolate, so she'd understand.
Ha, i have no idea how you do it Lydia. We only go shopping once a month, so i relax while everyione eats their crap, but than eat mine, and it was just the final straw. Gluttons.
Hey Speedy, they sell little fridges at Big W, you should hide one (with a padlock) in your closet. I know it's not practical but it's a fun idea!
So I had a job interview last week and they said they'd let us know by today but they haven't. I'm not too bothered what the result is as the hours aren't great, but a job is better than no job (plus it's for a BBC shop and next to a local radio station so, you know, could work my way up with the connections ). I wish I knew if I'd been successful or not. Sigh, I hate job hunting.
Give it a day or two, and try not to stress out. Keep in mind that complications and crises tend to pop up on Mondays (and sometimes on Friday afternoons, too!) so they may not have been able to get back to you as planned. Job hunting requires scads of patience, or you'll drive yourself nuts.
Grr......writing two books at once.....and GCSEs.......... Revise, Book Writing, Revise, Book Writing. Want to do just book writing. But which book? I've done 17 Chapters of one, and nearly finished 1 of the other. Should I increase the shorter one, or finish the longer one? Or shall I do both? AHHH! Help please
As a mum I'd say revise, revise, revise then do the writing when the exams are over, Jake (bla, bla, bla, nag, nag, nag) - it can't be long now till your done - a couple of weeks or so? As a (sort of) writer, I'm surprised you can write two stories at once - I carry my current story around in my head all the time unable to get rid of it until the last word of the first draft is done. But then again that's just me. Not sure if this helps at all but good luck with it all (especially the exams - otherwise it'll be Resits, Book Writing, Resits, Book Writing!)
Thanks Lally, I'll take that advice. Yeah, it's funny, I had a very similar converstion with my mum. I've actually come up with a plan, to seperate writing and revising, which will hopefully work. Thanks again, JaketheNinja (my real name is Richard)
Pollen and mold levels are through the roof today, and I therefore have a killer sinus headache. Either that or a mischievous mite is burrowing through my skull with a jackhammer.
Just read an article where an elderly woman on a bus was being bullied by teenagers (had a 10 minute clip of it filmed and placed on YouTube). This is so disgusting. Nothing new, but never have I seen such a lack of respect. Some of these kids do represent a small percentage of others of which have no soul. Couldn't watch thw whole thing.
And yet, you yielded to curiosity and clicked on the link? You do realize that by doing so, you encourage that kind of jackassing, right? People post that crap to see how many hits they can log. That's all they care about. I agree with you that it's a despicable comment on that element of our society. But the best thing each of us individually can do is to refuse to feed it, and to pass the word to others to also boycott such material. And as I type this, I see that NBC is airing a clip from that video on the Today Show. I will be logging on to their website to shame them for adding to the problem.
This wasn't the clip on YouTube. This was a video of a report on the incident. The reporter spoke on it and mid-way through decided to show parts of the clip. This is where I stopped, as it was right into shocking from moment one. I was hoping there was footage of her comments, as it had comment from her in the article, but I’m not sure if it did. I'm all for their article, as it's good to be reminded why I dislike society so much, but an actual video on it is not needed. I really should just keep away as I ran straight into an animal cruelty one a few days ago where they show the actual incident. No warning. Mind you i was also reading up a story where a treacher made her class slap a bully. Each and every student. So this rubbish goes both ways.
Yeah. But I do think the media are choosing sensationalism over good judgment when it comes to "bad behavior" videos. By all means, report that the feral vermin incriminated themselves online, speak with the victim on camera, but DON'T keep looping excerpts of the video and promising you can see the worst of it by going to youtube. It's irresponsible journalism. Off that topic, today is the second day of an apparent heat wave here in New England. A heat wave is defined as three or more consecutive days with a high temperature 90F or higher. Yesterday, thousands of people in parts of Boston lost power at the peak of yesterday's heat for the remainder of the day - no air conditioners, no fans. On top of that, the humidity has the air nearly saturated. Overnight temperatures remained in the 80s, because the air temperature cannot drop below the dew point, and with high humidity, evaporative cooling is ineffective. Swet that is supposed to help you cool off just lays on your skin. I only have air conditioning in my bedroom, and only use it overnight. (My ex used to turn the home into a refrigerator from May through September). Minimizing A/C use is a choice on my part, but days like this test my resolve.
Workers Compensation in my state of New South Wales is about to get completely destroyed in the Upper House. Wiped out utterly, pretty much. On the upside of the downside, my partner who does Workers Compensation wrote a letter and got it published in pretty much every state newspaper and even got a call from the Law Society as she picked up more than they did. Sad day for workers as of tomorrow. That's what happens when a government gets in because people hate the previous and vote them out, rather then vote the new in. Was always going to happen.
I was going to post something but realized that it will make me just more unhappy. @Speedy: Sorry about your sausage. I understand your point exactly. Before I moved from home, my dad would eat anything and everything. So now that I’m in my own place, I tell my sister and brother roommates that if they eat it, they have to replace it. And so far so good. @Eun: I hear you. Job hunting can be almost exhausting. I have a part-time job which I’m very happy with, but I want to find another with fewer hours. I live in a small town, so it’s not as easy as I thought. @Cog: I don’t know about the pollen count, but today looks like another heat record.
Anyone else hate summertime with a passion? I hate summertime so much. Where I live, summers are hot and very humid. Perhaps I could deal with the heat if the humidity was, I don't know, 10%. But then I would probably complain that everything was too dry. It's just that I am a very hot-natured person. And when it gets above 70, with 80-90% humidity, I get hot and sweaty and uncomfortable. Oh, yeah, and cranky. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that I have thick, dark, heavy hair on my head that soaks up the heat and keeps it trapped on my head. And it doesn't matter how short I cut it. Well, I suppose I could buzz it down, but you don't want me to do that. Simply for the sake of pregnant women, young children, and the elderly. The only positive thing about summertime is the fact that I can get fresh, garden-grown tomatoes at my local farmer's market. If I could, I would move to Alaska. Or Newfoundland. In a hot minute. No pun intended.
Dude, trust me, I get it...but unlike you, I DID buzz my head. Best decision that I ever made regarding my personal comfort, but it killed my love life until it grew back.
