So my computer crashed in the middle of my take home exam and refuses to boot or repair. I can't do anything. The worst part is, the computer will cost more to fix it than it is actually worth at this point. And it will still be underpowered for my needs... As it stands my family is too broke to do either right now, so I'll be using the school computers every day for a while. It sucks because my only textbooks are ebooks (my professors didn't even order any hard copies -.-). I'm just glad I'm not in programming anymore, but Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! Could the timing be any worse right now?
@Andrae Smith laptops are real easy to take apart and replace bits and bobs and as long as you have another device you can find out most things on youtube. What you should do straight off is unscrew the four tiny fixings on the underside of your laptop, unplug the hard-drive and fit into an external hard-drive case ($5 on amazon - $10 in radio shack), it will come with a mini USB/full size USB and at least you can get all the info off of it until you save for a new one! Or look on ebay for another laptop and use it for spares.
@erebh You are right, thanks I didn't even think of that option. Fortunately I do have all of the important things backed up or copied online somewhere. I'll definitely consider getting that external hard drive case, but it'll have to wait. That $5-$10 may be another necessity down the line. (yes, we are that broke, >_<)
My parents are on day 3 of renovating a bathroom in their house. One of the "charms" of an old-world home is that 90 degree angles are nowhere to be found. Ever. Anywhere. Fun. In typical spanish style, the room is being tiled to the ceiling in the shower and half-tiled in the rest of the room. There has been this song and dance since the beginning regarding getting the tile to come perfectly to the bottom edge of the one window in the room. Ridiculous and not going to look good. I was against this from the start and there has been so much futzing to try and achieve this arbitrary goal my mother has gotten into her head is the most necessary thing to happen in the entire mother-loving bathroom. Their house is on the other side of the property. We have nearly 5 acres. I am called every hour to come and give an opinion on something new, but no one really wants my opinion, they want me to chose from theirs. I hate this bathroom. We are no longer friends. If I ever use it, it will be only to take the must ungodly of dumps.
I love math. There's no emotional content - no room for argument. In Math is Peace. I'm kinda miserable right now because our spa (or hot tub, whatever you want to call it) has suddenly developed a serious leak. My guess is that either a hose has come uncoupled somehow or an ambitious and hungry rodent has eaten through a hose. Accessing the guts of the spa is a major pain in the ass - we have to remove the counter and side panels and that always takes far too long. Also, I suspect we'll find some black widow spiders in there - we've seen them around the spa before. Then we'll have to replace the hose, and that means a trip to Home Depot (not my favorite place) and spending money. Grr.
I wish all I had to worry about was maths Your Highness @minstrel I love DIY shops! Ireland are losing 1-0 to Germany
@Duchess-Yukine-Suoh , @thirdwind Well I don't hate math... but I do hate math classes, math homework, and math exams (especially math exams >.<). I got a C+ in basic calculus, got in into college and got to skip calc 1 for engineers thanks to AP... but I Got a D in calc 2 for engineers. Retook it and got a pretty effed up professor, so I ended up with an F (in the same course -.-). On the bright side, I am done with college math (and I think science too), but my GPA took a hit... But I don't blame the math alone, it was my bad planning trying to be an Engineer when I am so clearly not (wasn't so clear then). I was taking Programming, Calculus, and Physics in the same semester (along with english and criminal justice) I just didn't have time to devote to all of them. :/ @minstrel follow the spiders to solve your problem... no but I hope you get that fixed soon!
That's sort of what happened to me. I did OK in calculus I but didn't do so good in calculus II. That's when I knew engineering/physics wasn't for me. I haven't taken a math class in a long, long time, and I've been a happier person since.
On the bright side, we both know what's not for us. And I am fortunate enough to still have the credits for the class from the university thanks to AP and such so I'm in all English and humanities now. (now there is sooo much reading.)
I need two root canals on the left side and I just lost a filling on the right, so eating is out of the question. To make matters worse, there are no emergency dentists in town and I have to fly to Los Angeles on Sunday morning with a gaping hole in my mouth. Hopefully I can get these extremely painful problems patched up there, but until then I am in absolute misery.
Oh jeeeze... I'm sorry to hear that... Mouth pains are the worst! Hopefully you get them taken care of soon. You gotta be able to eat and rest. They are soooo distracting! and They hurt like a mofo
Oh yeah. I remember reading hundreds of pages a week at one point. Damn, I hope you get that taken care of soon. Tooth problems can be unbearable.
Eek. I'm so sorry. Am well aware of how that feels. If you have swelling or anything, gargle with very warm salt water, make sure it gets around the swollen parts really well. Ibuprofen is awesome with tooth pain. Hope you find relief soon.
Yeah, I'm on 4 800mg Ibuprofen a day right now. The DDS wanted to give me Vicodin, but I couldn't take them because of a past addiction problem. Only issue, so much Ibu is making me have dizzy spells
I have an auto-immune arthritis, and I combine tylenol with the ibuprofen so I take less of each. You might try combining them. Be careful not to exceed the tylenol max, especially if you drink much, the metabolites (as the drug is broken down) can accumulate and be a serious issue, but the bottom line is you can take less of each by combining them.
I ha I've found for mouth pain that plain old aspirin worked best -- better than ibuprofen or acetaminophen. You might want to give that a try if the others aren't working. I hope you feel better -- mouth pain is so awful.
