Yikes! You are aware that you're matwoolf, right? The lists you write must be very, ah... interesting. I'm not saying you shouldn't write them, or even that you shouldn't have your son read them, but I think the responsible thing to do would be to include some kind of disclaimer. He is your son, after all, and I'm sure you don't want him to hurt himself, physically or mentally.
    :superthink:

I agree it's not much, but I could only find 14 states that have a minimum wage above $9... https://www.thebalance.com/2017-federal-state-minimum-wage-rates-2061043

$7.25 is the average minimum wage in the US.

That's it, huh? I think a lot of the $10 passed last election haven't hit the books yet? I could be wrong, but that was one of the big down ballot stories last year...

Not the average, it's the federal minimum wage.

    Most states are higher.

There are also exceptions for jobs that typically earn tips.

The cost of living in this country varies widely so it's very hard to compare raw wage numbers.

Its below minimum wage in the uk too ... that's £7.25 currently for adults , possibly rising to £9 later this year. However apprentice roles are exempt because you also get 'value' in the training you receive, and sometimes accommodation.

Its not ideal but its better than being caught in a catch 22 of no experience=no job=no experience

We didn't win three world wars with that attitude, mister whippersnapper. How 'bout you cancel the mobile phone contract, spend less time playing on a box set, eh? I have had absolutely enough of millennials [including @TE, and Bayview] whining about not being a chief executive of Apple corporation, silicon roundabout by the age of fourteen and voting also. [Remember] Emily Davison threw herself in front of the king's horse for people like you. Here's another opportunity, and get to it.

This is a total strawman dude.

Barn said nothing about wanting a job that does more than make them self-sufficient.

For someone under 21, the minimum wage in the UK is £5.60 per hour, for contrast, the minimum you need to be self-sufficient, according to livingwage.org, is £8.45 nationally and £9.75, assuming you work full-time.

Personally, I think that if you're below 21 your personal circumstances should be factored in, after all, you're dropped from the foster care system at 16.

Yes, but you can also get a deliveroo job after work, delivering pizzas and takeaway. That gives you the flexibility you need - say if you were completing your Masters degree as a hobby, for example.

Ok, considering my dad and several cousins have masters I call it a little insulting to call it a hobby.

Also, read into the likes of being a Deliveroo driver, it's basically a zero hour contract. Yes, you can choose when they can call you but there's no guarantee you'll be paid for that time. Fine for anyone not paying bills, like students, less so for someone looking to make a living.

    *facepalm*

Just shows I spent too long listening to my mother prattle. My parents live in the country and I love my dad, because he is the only one who can have a conversation without wanting to monologue. My mother loves to whine and whinge, about her students being idiotic pricks, about my sister being a mess and how Dad's on the verge of casting anything on the floor into a black bag. How my brother cannot get a job (he rarely interviews and when he does he bombs them) and neither of them look to be moving out soon.

I went over there to get a bike so I can cycle to my new job. Of course, the lack of intonation in the written word makes things a trap for me sometimes

So for the last ten, fifteen years I've been using Photobucket to host photos that I then post to other sites (like this one, and some of my other hobbies). Suddenly, by posting two pics here, they're all cranky and telling me I'm violating my user agreement by posting to a third party site and my privileges will be restricted unless I pony up some cash.

Looks like I'll be batch downloading and deleting.....

For real? Great, looks like I'll be searching for a new image host too, bad enough that you can't search without ads because they block you until you agree to turn your blocker off.
