Dude, seriously? If people don't like re-reading books, they aren't healthy, vibrant human beings?

Yeah, I just like the stories. The characters. But I'm not a wordsmith-type writer, and I'm not that kind of reader, either.

Got sideswiped Monday morning by a driver who was convinced she had a green light with a left turn filter arrow against her (I was making a right turn on red in parallel with the left-turners. She was lucky she didn't hit one of them). My insurance company's appraiser says with my car being 14 years old and rather dinged up already they'll probably choose to total it. He said he'd call me yesterday to let me know what the valuation is, but he didn't.

Oh well. I still have to spend today getting bids to see how much it'll take to fix it. If it's too high, this Monday I'll have to withdraw the claim. I don't want my car totalled. I like my PT Cruiser. I like my manual transmission. And I don't like the prospect of having to find a new one.

The only good thing is that, according to the appraiser, if it comes down to she-said, she-said (and no police report), her company is responsible for her damage, and mine is for mine. I hope he's right--- it'd stink to have to fork over my deductible for hers.

And oh, yes, it's a good thing that my car is driveable. It don't look pretty, but it goes. A lot better than the Ford Fiesta they gave me for a rental, by the way. I don't care for driving an automatic, but this car takes the prize for nasty.

Me, too. I hope it's a good sign that I enjoy rereading (and editing) my own stuff. But maybe I'm just a deluded egomaniac.

That sucks. :( Car trouble can be so aggravating for sure. I hope things work out in your favor! Where I live you can’t turn right if the arrow light is red, but you see people with foreign plates do that now and then. Must be confusing if they one day get stopped should they do it in front of a cop car.

Know what the really scary thing is? This whole 'I can't tell a word he's saying' where songs are concerned, is exactly what my dad used to say when he had to endure my music. Back then I used to scoff - he was square, he was a grump, he just 'didn't understand' my generation and their music :meh:

a ha ... mind you I really like springsteen - but I still can't make out some of his vocals ..... for years I though he heard a lawless whine (its long whistle whine) and it took me a long while to work out that he was swinging a sledgehammer on a railroad gang, working in the rain

I'm not sure if every state in the Union has it. If I'm somewhere I don't know for certain, I must be a real PITA to the other drivers as I sit at the corner wondering. Of course, the horn honk behind me tells me I should go!

So my landlord called, when he said he'd be coming today with a new oven he had reserved it because it's the last one. When he got to the shop with the handyman one of the staff sold it to someone else! I got excited for nothing DX

Being back for less than two weeks it turns out that I suck at my job and might get sacked if I don't step it up!

I've really tried, but it seems I make more mistakes for every day I'm there. Every night I'm in angst because I don't know what they will have found this time. I don't have time to clean 17 rooms in 6-7 hours. Not without being sloppy. It's just not possible at this point! And not with totally ruining my back.

So happy - I'll soon have an apartment.
Sad - I won't afford said apartment because I will be out of job soon enough.

I'm dead. Work finally killed me. 535 covers and almost 1200 plates passed through my line today.

Hopefully you made lots of money, at least?

(I miss that aspect of working in the service industry. In my job, it doesn't matter how busy I am or how many extra hours I put in, I get the same salary. Sigh.)

In my industry, there are virtually no raises and no overtime, so adding more hours at more companies is the only way to get more money. I currently work for three companies under four different contracts.

I know this is petty, but I hate it when there is something on eBay that I want, and I'm afraid I'm going to get beat out on it in the last minute so I want to watch the auction end... but the seller puts it to end at 8 am on a Sunday morning.

So in the latest chapter in the saga of The Business Next Door:

When we moved in, it was a gasoline stand.

    No problems.

Then that closed and they bulldozed the site, stayed empty for a year or two IIRC.

    No problems.

Then they built a convenient store there.

Built. According to my barber (barbers know everything that goes on in the neighborhood) there was something dodgy about the financing, and one of the partners skedaddled with all the money needed to make it a business once the building was built, so it stayed completed and empty for about a year.

    Frustrating.

Then they opened a convenient store / 100yen (~$1) store there. Problems, because 100 yen convenient stores don't function very well as convenient stores (not enough variety of "convenient" items), nor do they function well as 100 yen stores (too small, not enough variety of 100 yen items). It's kind of like a bulldozer/bus: slow, doesn't carry many people, and doesn't have enough weight to shove dirt around.

So that went out of business, but not for the reasons you'd think. I learned that the owner was unable to secure a tobacco license from the city. He had a package/ off-premises / whatever you call it license for alcohol, but couldn't sell smokes, and at least in this country, that's the death sentence for a convenient store.

So they did an extensive, jackhammer out the floor and sections of wall remodel on the building, and it's re-opened as a...

    Bento shop.

Like a chip shop, or whatever we've got in America that involves lots of food deep-fried to order.

So I woke up this morning with the scent of deep-frying croquet permeating my apartment, and realized that that's what life is going to smell like from now on.

Unless it goes out of business again....

Had to look up what you were talking about, as my first thought was:Who eats deep fried wooden mallets and balls?
Sorry you have to smell that, must be quite odorous first thing in the morning.

Ugh, why do I ever look up the weird shit my body is prone to doing? The hypochondriac in me is sure I'm dying of about thirty different diseases. I haven't died yet, so I know it's probably fine - I just need to stop doing 'research' and freaking myself out.
