My parents sometimes get mad at me for being on the computer to late at night...It used to be I had to get off by 9 but thats kind of fallen by the wayside, but even then they didn't ban me from the computer for weeks. That really sucks for both of you and I'm sorry you got into a fight with your parents twin! if you ever need to talk I'm here for you! *hugs*
My parents used to set a time limit on our internet, so it would automatically shut off after a certain time. :/ Sorry about the computer ban, Gi. Hang in there! Got to leave for practice in like ten minutes. My allergies are going nuts, and my throat hurts so badly I can hardly swallow. Awesome.
Heh, yeah, my parents did get mad if I didn't get up at a decent time. But they trusted me with the internet. Althought I wasn't as much of a socialite on the web back then as I am now.
Bah, I wanted to read in the park but there were dogs there. (I'm scared of dogs) And now I'm stuck inside attempting to do all this university work.
I'm sorry Eunoia. Isn't there a leash law there? I have 2 huge dogs (one is 230 lbs) but we have a leash law here. My boys would never be off lead in public except maybe a dog park, but we don't go to those.
I don't think so. Dogs don't need leads in parks, unless it specifically says so. Oh well, I'll just need to find a park and/or a time of day where dogs are scarce.
230lbs! A mastiff of some sort? A St Bernard? I imagine he takes some budging to get him off the sofa!
If there is just one dog owner around you can ask him/her to put her dog on a leach, most dog owner is happy to do so and well aware that there are both people with allergies and people scared of dogs who needs space. Or send a friend to ask. To avoid the stupid, but well meaning "There no need to be scared, my dogs a friendly, if you just let them say hi"-dogowner you can always tell the white lie that your both hyper allergic AND scared.
I think dogs should be kept on flexi-leads if there are kids, people and other dogs about. If they want dogs who need to run around they should have big enough gardens first, or at least go somewhere more secluded. It annoys me to no end when I take my little pooch to the park, and I have to pick her up to rescue her from some pitbulls that come hurtling towards her off their leads. More than once I've had to wrench another dog's jaws from her throat, whilst their owners casually stroll over and say "Ooohh he's alriiight". No, he's not all right, he's about to kill my dog. What's more is the fact that a dog can run so fast, they could have tackled a toddler to the floor -playful or not- and harmed them before their lazy owners catch up with them. I think it's really irresponsible. =/
None of the above He's a Great Pyrenees. His picture is on my profile, he's the white one. My other dog is 130 lbs but he's fat due to some medical conditions we're trying to get under control. My Pyr is NOT fat... just very large Oh yes, and where does a Great Pyrenees go? Anywhere he wants! LOL Just kidding, he's actually quite a good boy
I think that if you are passing another person on your walk, you should take action at a distance and leach the dog to show everyone that the dog is under control. Offering them that signal and reassurance is the least thing you can do, even if you would have the dog under perfect control even without the leach. If someone is scared of dogs they probably cant tell from the dogs body language if it the owner got it under control or not, but can tell if the dog is on a leach. As a side note: Flexi-leads a often cause injury since many owners cant handle them correctly, causing injurys like broken tangled legs etc when the leads comes to a sudden stop. (Edit: Great minds...)
I wouldn't appreciate any dog running up and attacking my dog, but unfortunately where I live there are more pitbulls than any other dog. They're also usually owned (where I live) by the type of scum who mistreat them and make them misbehave. My dog's been attacked by Jack Russels, Terriors, all sorts. And I use a flexi-lead for my dog, and it's perfectly safe. Also, a famous dog trainer (Victoria Stillwell) always recommends flexi-leads. I'm not saying her word's gospel, but I don't see why any dog lover would promote something if it was potentially dangerous in any way. If they're used correctly, there's no problem. To be honest, anyone who can't spend a few minutes reading instructions and making sure the lead is applied correctly doesn't really deserve a dog in the first place. I've never had an problems with my flexi-leads, and I've never heard of any incidents either. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, but I'd rather keep others safe than let my dog go running off to potentially hurt someone.
I agree with you. I was a dog trainer in my previous life LOL. My dogs are NEVER off lead in a public place where they are surrounded by people. Not because I can't control them, I most certainly can, but because they are HUGE and they make people very nervous. My hunting dog is off lead when he's hunting, but that's a different situation. My dogs SIT when people approach them, none of that jumping up stuff, no crazy bouncing, I have good dogs because they have a good owner.
I don't mind dogs without leads (well, I do because I'm scared of dogs, but I mean I think it's fair if it's in a public place like a park) because I don't think it's right if dogs don't get the chance to run free. As long as owners can control their own dogs, that is. When I was younger, I was chased round a park once by a dog (despite knowing I shouldn't run away but hey, when a huge dog is coming at you what did you expect me to do?!), but when the owner caught up with the dog I think they took control... I was in tears nonetheless, but thankfully I was with friends and they made me see the funny side of it. Anyway, those flexi-leads don't actually make me feel that safe. I want the dog to have a proper lead. But yeah, this is someone who thinks every dog is going to attack her so yeah...
Uhhh! Work, work, work...*sigh* but's it's only four and a half hours. Yay, I'll be home tonight by seven.
Anybody up for a second round of choco chip cookies? I need something extremely sweet. My sister's cat died yesterday.
Thanks, Eunoia. The cat was fifteen. He had a long, good life, and he didn't suffer in the end. So that is something to be thankful for.
Aw, how sad! I don't have chocolate chip cookies, but I just pulled some oatmeal raisin cookies out of the oven if those will help.
