It's an internet contract for a portable Wi-Fi modem. I use a pay as you go SIM for my internet because the contract has been a disaster from the start.
Have to admit I don't know how that works. I've kept my cell service and internet separate. But if there's any way you can jump to another provider, I'd say you should do it.
The contract for the internet is completely separate to my mobile. They're two different items. I just happen to have separate issues with both things, cos I'm lucky. Vodafone are internet, tv and mobile operators. But I only have internet with them. ETA: my phone is on Tesco mobile.
as someone who works with the public..... THE PUBLIC!!!! -rages internally- -fighting the urge to flip a desk-
It's official... the restaurant is closed and I have been laid off. Not even the owner is drawing a check. I ain't happy about it, but I could use some time off. Might even get some writing done?
Hope you've been too busy to blow through your savings. I'm... moderately concerned as I just finished a long and pricey vacation that took most of February. All of my jobs are staying open and paying, but should that stop I may be in a bit of a tight spot. On the plus side, staying home all day and not dining out has kept my bank balance healthier than it usually is, it's the 17th already and I haven't blown through my theoretical monthly allowance yet.
What I`m hoping to do, make some use of the newfound free time. Though I`m only cut not laid off...yet...really they only need the three supervisors with only two floors active but for now the mangers trying to keep us on.
Yeah, the Potvin family is fine, but thanks for asking. It's a technicality to protect the company, as all of us are now instantly available for unemployment. I still have a bunch of stuff to do, which I could ignore, but that only creates more headaches down the road.
Ben Arranovitch is not coming to my local library anymore because that event has now officially been cancelled.
Just watched some of Trump's meeting with the hotel people. Basically it seems three things are gonna happen 1. Things keep on the way they are and my manager keeps trying to stretch the hours as far as she can with only two open floors that nobody's gonna stay in but eventually well be more or less laid off for at least a bit 2. The hotel shuts down which well be laid off 3. The US goes into a shutdown even more so like San Francisco which well be laid off then too. So either way.
The waiting is the worse. We were twisting in the wind all last week. Is Gina (the governor) gonna do this? Is Gina gonna do that? By Friday, our sources in her office were telling us the axe was coming Monday, so we wandered through the weekend in alternating states of hysteria and catatonia... just waiting, waiting, waiting.... Now that it's done we at least have a game plan. I'm actually relieved at this point, though my last 24 hours have been nothing short of bonkers. I decided to keep working, despite not getting paid. What the fuck else am I going to do? It's not like all the tasks I could ignore now aren't going to be waiting for me later. There's no playbook for this... nobody has ever shut down the hospitality industry before. Or had to start it back up again.
I ain't gonna be alone. Our town is like no other when it comes to this business. There are James Beard award winners and Top Chef finalists on almost every corner. I couldn't begin to put a number on what just happened here, but Providence has something like 500-600 restaurants for 160,000 people. Some big, some small, some just right (like mine), and I have 41 employees, so if that's the mean number 20K people just lost their jobs. Multiply that by the rest of cities in America, of which, the entire population of Providence could fit into a few blocks. Unemployment is immediately available for everyone, which was why we laid everyone off, but that's nothing for servers and bartenders. And a lot of our local artists don't have a lick of business sense. A lot of great restaurants aren't going to make it. Praise Jesus I'm not an owner. And Hail Satan that it's not my money. If Covid-19 had hit a couple of years from now? I shudder to think about it. And my boss owns several restaurants and has about 300 hundred employees, so, yeah... no way I'm sitting this one out.
