After living in California most of my life, we generally tried to forget her.

    Farewell Shinji Tanimura.

(I think he actually died about a week ago but it either has just been announced or missed it from other news in the West)

Shit, this is a surprising and disturbing one. Apparently, he drowned at home.

I came on to mention this. I used to be a big friends fan in my teens, so it’s shocking considering he died so young.

Yeah, drugs and hot tubs. He's had problems forever. Very sad.

Whenever another rock star bites the bullet, there's a very cynical DJ at my local rock station who says "Gee, I wonder what the cause was?" Because it's almost always drug/alcohol addiction related. People get mad, but usually he's right. And to some degree, though not as predictably, it extends into the world of actors (especially if they're child actors) and celebrities in general. They all have easy access to that world of drugs and money that can ruin your life if you aren't careful, plus the pressure of being performing artists. I guess it's also largely true for runway models, who tend to marry rock stars. They have all the same factors in their lives. Fame and fortune ain't always what it's cracked up to be, folks.

That's really too bad. Seems like he was a cool dude, and coasting on residuals isn't such a bad way to sunset. It would have been nice if he'd gotten a few more years.

I thought someone would have posted this sooner, but Thomas (Ken) Mattingly passed away. https://www.nasa.gov/news-release/nasa-administrator-remembers-apollo-astronaut-thomas-k-mattingly-ii/

He fell sick before Apollo 13 took off and was replaced by Jack Swigert. Was instrumental in working out the re-powering up procedure that got Apollo 13 home. Laster Mattingly was Commander of Apollo 16, STS-4, and STS-51C.

The name isn't familiar, but I've seen that face, a LOT, on all kinds of shows and maybe movies.

The bells have rung out a final time:

    Shane MacGowan, gone at 65.

Both a shame he went so early and a miracle he lasted this long.
