Actually, the edges of Santa Fe and any other city in New Mexico are susceptible to wild mice penetrations, especially in the mountainous regions. NM leads the US in hanta cases.
How long does the hantavirus stay in your system to cause problems? I have a relative that experienced partial blindness after the age of 50 years from some virus she must have gotten from chickens as a kid (apparently it's the only possible cause of the type of loss of vision she experiences). Not sure about the complications from hantavirus.
Well, death, apparently. They say it can take 1 to 8 weeks to experience symptoms. Talk about insidious. 3 dead mice in my garage this week. We normally do our own disposal and cleanup, but I was like, yeah, I'm calling my pest control guy. Not going out like that.
I don't know anything about their home, but if she was the sole carer and he was in advanced Alzheimer's, it seems possible that mice could have gotten in. I have a friend who has battled mice in her home for years. Lives in Idaho, single family home which I've not seen but I know she's a neat and tidy person. Still the little furballs are constantly turning up despite her keeping multiple cats. My dad was sole carer for my stepmom for several years, and quite honestly she should have been in an inpatient facility due to her multiple health issues, so I've seen the stress that that can put on someone.
Former US Senator Alan Simpson (R, Wyoming), known first to me for his cameo in the 1993 movie Dave, has gone to the great debate chamber in the sky. He was well-known for his wit. “We have two political parties in this country, the Stupid Party and the Evil Party. I belong to the Stupid Party.”
Legendary boxer George Foreman is gone. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/boxing/article/george-foreman-legendary-heavyweight-champion-and-rival-of-muhammad-ali-dies-at-76-015348751.html
I didn't and still don't know much about boxing, other than the names of the champs. But I do have a handy little time-saving Foreman grill. I don't know much about GF, but he always seemed to be a good guy, despite his "big, mean, scary boxer" persona that he put on for fights. He and Muhammad Ali were also very good friends, in spite of their arena rivalry. I hadn't been born yet when he was fighting, so I only saw him on his commercials as Big Fat Great Grandpa George - beloved, approachable, even jovial. I also heard he took the money he made from boxing and used it to keep open the Youth Centre in his home town. What boxer would do a thing like that, except possibly Marciano? So I'm sad he's gone.
Oh no, not the greatest swordsman that ever lived. I came here to post about Kilmer as well, so sad. He was great in Tombstone and Top Gun, but, for my tenth birthday my mom took me and my friends to the theaters to see Willow. Val Kilmer will always be Mad Martigan to me. Hope his next life treats him well.
One of the scariest movies I’ve seen starred Kilmer and Mike Douglas - The Ghost and the Darkness. Great acting in that.
A great man who dragged the Catholic Church into the 20th century (even though it was the 21st century when he did it). Now it remains to be seen whether the next Pope will take the church back into the 19th century.
I live in Providence, RI, which is a strange petri dish of Irish/Italian/Dominican Roman Catholicism. And I'm at my favorite Italian joint getting some takeout and drinking a negroni while I wait. There are three churches in my field of view, two of which, still do mass in Latin and Spanish. Needless to say, the bells are tolling. I'm not a religious person, but I respect everybody's faith. Even at the bar, it's all anyone can talk about.
I'm not Catholic, or indeed Christian, or even very religious. But I'm very sorry he passed away. From what I understand, he suffered terribly in his last days. Double pneumonia and a stroke, both at once, is more than anyone should have to stand.
