"I can still hear you! And....thank you!" She shivered under the blanket. The water was cold from the fresh run off from the snow. She'd wear the blanket until her clothes dried by the fire back at the cave. "Girls, hurry up, I'm cold!"
He wanted to blush but couldn't. He knew she could hear his thoughts thats why he had felt stupid thinking them. He actually prefered it this way, she already knew what he wanted to say before he had time to send the thought to his mouth, cuts out the middle man. He slipped off his shirt and turned enough to wrap it around her shoulders. It was a little dirty but it might help with the cold.
Chrys walked herself away form everybody, and sat in a shallow part of the stream. She needed time to think, by herself, and it seemed like she'd never be able to. She rinsed out her hair and submerged herself completely. Floating at the surface, she rembered a little song her mother use to sing to her when she was little: When life is giving you lemons/ and you have to to fight your demons/ you realize what you can do/ and see yourself for true/ yeah, life finds it fun/ to cloud over your sun/ fill you with dread/ won't tell what's ahead/ but that's life/ it wants a fight/ that's life/ giving you strife/ yeah, that's life.... Chrys smiled at the memory of her mom, and even her father now, "It's sad that you two won't be together again." Chrys jumped, she could have sworn she hearda gruff voice say, "And what makes you think that?" She looked around, "It must have been the wind in the trees, yeah, the wind in the trees." "Sure it was..."
Fox had finished bathing and put her cloths back on. She walks up to Raylene and Chad, "Ok, I guess we're done. Go ahead Chad, get yourself cleaned off. It would probably be good for the wound. That is, if you can manage to leave Raylene's side."
Chrys searched for the source of the sound again, but found nothing. "Who is out there?! Show yourslef!" "You haven't changed a bit." Chrys stood from the stream, sniffing the air, scanning her eyes over the landscape. Nothing. "Keep looking, you stubborn kitten." "Who are you! Where are you?" Chrys began searching frantcally. She ran onto the shore, looking up one of the nearby trees, "Are you up there?!" She rushed up the tree, still finding nothing."Where the heck are you?!" "Stubborn." The voice chuckled.
Smith quickly casted a warning glance at Fox, Ray wasn't going to like more of those sugestions. He turned was about to turn around when he realized Chrys still wasn't here. "Where's Chrys?" He asked knowing that turning around early might lead to death if Chrys went Kat. Be it an angry wet Kat. She did it again. Thought Raylene and glared at Fox. "Chrys are you done?" She shouted at Chrys who had moved a bit away from the group and was now climbing a tree. Raylene pulled Chad's shirt a bit closer as a cold breaze blew by.
"Get down from the tree before you hurt yourself honey." Chrys looked down from the branch she was on, "Who is down there?" She lept from the tree, "Where are you? How many of you are there?" "Listening was never your strength little kitten." Chrys puled on a couple of her locks, shreiking, "Who the hell keeps calling me kitten!? I'm not a damned kitten?!"
"Sorry but you guys did look like lovebirds when you were cuddling last night." says Fox with a smile, "As for Chrys, I guess she wanted to be by herself for a little bit. She should be fine, but I'll look for her if you want me too."
"Please?" Said Smith and offered the gun to Fox. If she was goning to go look by herself then she was going to need some protection. He realized that he was still holding Ray's hand protectively. Raylene nodded to smith that she agreed and looked at Fox. "Be careful." She said thought she was still a little mad at her she didn't want her to die.
Fox takes the gun and begins to look for Kat. She yells out, "Kat where are you? Please come back, I know you can hear me. Chad and Raylene are looking for you." as she walks along the river.
"Fox! Fox help me! There's somebody here!" Chrys tries to figure out where Fox is. "Has she always been like this? You know, out of her mind?" "Stop that, it's your fault she's like this." Chrys laid on the ground, resting her head on her folde arms, "Stop it! Both of you! Just stop it already! Stop toying with me!"
Fox looks down the side of the river and sees Kat laying there. "Hey Kat, are you ok?" says Fox as she runs over to her. She kneels down and pets the back of Kat's head. "Come on says something." says Fox.
"Quit whining, get the frick up." "Don't talk to her like that. She wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you."
Fox could hear voices coming from Kat. "Hey Kat, why are you talking to yourself? Is there something wrong?" says Fox. The wind was blowing towards them, from across the river, carrying cold mist along with it. Fox shivers a little and says "Come on Kat, we should get somewhere warm."
Chrys feel the wind and Fox tugging at her, "You hear them too? Please say you do?" "I am beginning to worry about her, take care of her." A soft and nurturing voice says. A gruff one responds sarcastically, "You're 'beginning' to fear for her? Wow, you must be where she got the crazy from." "Fox, do you hear them too? I can't figure out where they are, but you can hear them too, please say you can." Chrys looks up with tears in her eyes. The gruff voice starts, "Oh, quit your whining you little pu-" But is cut off by the other voice, who now has a frustrated tone, "Harold, shut the hell up. How many times do I have to tel you it's your fault she's here?!"
Fox looks at her with suprise. "You...you really don't know do you? Kat, you are the one making those voices. Both of those voices are coming from your mouth. Its your mimic ability, but I don't know why it is going out of control like this. Just focuse on your voice and mine, and ignore those other two voices." says Fox.
Chrys looked up at Fox, confused, "You're telling me that it's me. Me?!" "Yes, honey, you. It's you. That's right, calm down." "That's right Katerina, calm the hell down." Chrys placed her hands over her mouth, get out of my head, out.out.out dang spots. Letting her hands fall form her face, "Would you believe me if I said they sounded famiar, but I don't know why?" She stood up, "Why do you have a gun?"
"Chad wanted me to bring the gun incase there was a predator near by. Oh, and one of the voices used the name Harold, does that mean anything to you? Maybe he is someone you know from back on Earth, or a convict that you met earlier." says Fox. She sits between the cold blowing mist and Kat, to try to keep her from getting too cold.
"Harold! That's both actualy. It turns out that dear old dad was one of the convicts on the ship. I didn't know untill I had that memory lapse and saw him. But alas, he's dead. Maybe that's why the voice was famiar. Man, the sun is bearing down." Chrys wipped her forehead with her forearm. "Man is it hot out here. I think I'll get back in the water." She got up and walked to the edge of the water, "Okay, maybe I won't." She walked back to Fox, "I will." When the water hit her foot though, she ran to Fox, "I won't."
Fox laughs a little and says "Oh, you are going back into the water." She picks Kat up and puts her into the water. "Lets have some fun while we can." says Fox with a smile.
Chrys splashes the water, "The cat in me wants to scratch you for putting me in here, but the human is just happy that she's cooled off. I think I have more fur than I used to. I have never felt this hot in my life." Chrys comments, and then hods her nose to sit under the water. Bubbles pop to the surface as she says something Fox can't hear.
"Yeah, before you barely had any fur, and now it seems every where. But hey, aren't cats supposed to like being warm." says Fox, as she thinks to herself, "Good, I got her mind off of all the bad things going on right now."
Chrys bobs out of the water, "I'm beginning to wonder just how much of me has changed, you know. But, I also stop caring, only to have some other change spring itself at me."
"Every one changes with time. Its just that you're change is a little more obvious, that's all. We should hurry up and get back to the love birds. Though I doudt they want us to bust in on their current cuddle session." says Fox as she gives Kat a playful splash.
Chrys splashes Fox back, "I would advise you to take 'lovebirds' out of your vocabulary if you ever want Ray to like you." She walks onto the shore. "Even if they are trying." She mutters to herself.
