Rugby World Cup started last night..... All Blacks beat Tonga Anybody else out there watching this???
Nah, I was too busy focused on Rugby League. Warrington Wolves beat Hull FC, and took the League Leader's Shield! Next week, we'll be beating Huddersfield in the first game of the Play-Offs.
Just so long as someone ploughs Keith Mason I couldn't care less about the result. Mason's a twat of the first order.
Bengals win, Lions win, Bills win, Chefs, Falcons, and Steelers get absolutely stomped, and the Chargers give up a TD on the opening kick off. What a great afternoon of football!
Darn, I vaguely support Hull. US Open women's final between Serena Williams and Sam Stosur right now. I think I'm supporting Stosur. And then Nadal v Djokovic for the men's final. Obviously, I'm supporting Nadal.
Ah, yes. This is what I love the most about the NFL -- the hierarchy of last year can be completely destroyed and rearranged next season. As long as the Pack repeats, of course.
Congrats to Stosur, she's been a top player for a while, but I worried she'd never get over her nerves in a final. Fitting win, and once again in defeat at the US Open Williams' behaviour was deplorable. Giants are losing, Panthers are not losing, and the Seahawks are threatening to overcome a 3 score lead on the road against a division rival. Never go away again NFL* *Offer contingent on a Raiders win this Monday.
NFL Redzone is the greatest thing ever invented, ever. Seriously. Every single game, every touchdown, this is HEAVEN. Titans/Jags: Nothing really special, didn't impress me much. I don't really think either is much of a playoff contender at this point, but we'll see. Steelers/Ravens: Hello, blowout! Seven turnovers by Pittsburgh, does not bode well at all for them. And Flacco may be proving himself this season. Eagles/Rams: The Dream Team talk continues for another week. I think Bradford is a very legit QB, though -- might even have a Pro Bowl season. Vick looks very, very good as usual. Falcons/Bears: Incredibly disappointing. I thought the Falcons would put up more of a fight, some kind of fight, seriously, but no. Da Bears still suck, their O-line more so. Cutler was on his ass a few times today -- same problem, different season. They better lose next week. Bengals/Browns: Dalton may be the real deal if he can stay healthy. Otherwise, very average game from two average teams. Bills/Chiefs: Color me surprised -- the Bills may be the sleeper team of the season! Didn't expect that much of a blowout. Lions/Bucs: Lions are looking much better this season, I wouldn't be surprised if they made the playoffs. Very interesting team to keep an eye on, especially since they're in our division. Colts/Texans: Just as I expected -- take Manning out of the equation, and the Colts are very, very average. Their season doesn't look well, and today didn't inspire any confidence. This could be a playoff year for the Texans. Giants/Redskins: Ah, there you are again, Rex Grossman! I must say, you look a bit better than you were with da Bears. The Giants aren't inspiring much confidence in me, but neither are the Redskins. Panthers/Cards: Cam Newton may very well be the Real Deal. Very, very good debut, even in a loss. He might win this team a few wins, but not playoff contention. Kolb looked alright. Give him some time, he'll evolve very well. Viqueens/Chargers: Didn't expect much out of McNabb, or the Queens. Rivers looks good, but can he avoid a slump or an early playoff exit this season? The Queens loss was sweet, indeed. 49ers/Hawks: Harbaugh may be exactly the thing Smith needs to prove he wasn't a complete bust after all. Niners could be better this season, although I don't expect big things out of that division. Cowgirls/Jets: Rooting for NY all the way on this one. I'm glad they won, too. The Cowgirls don't inspire much confidence in me, and neither does Romo. Come to think of it, neither do the Jets -- on paper, they always seem to be good, but when I see them play, they feel a little lacking somehow. Tonight was a good game by the Jets, but I don't know for the season.
The more football I see, the more I think whoever does the BBC stats hasn't a clue what they're talking about. The stats for Saturday read 4 shots on target, 12 shots off for Town, and no shots on target with ten shots off for Tranmere. By the count in the BBC's own highlights, we had at least eight shots on target. 1. First goal 2. Jamie McCombe's header cleared off the line 3. Alan Lee's header tipped over 4. Jordan Rhodes' 20-yard skidder pushed wide 5. Gary Roberts' free-kick pushed wide 6. Scott Arfield's shot blocked 7. Lee Novak's effort cleared off the line 8. Second goal. And they had one: a rasping 25-yard effort well saved by Ian Bennett (who's quite short in real-life - he held a door open for me when I'd been to meet the manager and I'm as tall as he is).
I've just been reading about how Serena acted. I didn't know she was already on probation. Congrats to Stosur though.
He's saying that BBC's stats are wrong- they are crediting Huddersfield Town with only four shots on goal (including their two goals) and twelve missed shots. But BBC's own highlight package of the match actually shows 8 on-target shots for the team. I didn't realise the BBC was so unreliable for sports coverage- I usually just use team sites, like for example Manchester United provides text play-by-play on their site, which is useful for games that aren't shown over here. It would be like Fox saying Rex Grossman completed 4 passes, had ten incompletions, and then running a highlight package with 6 completed Grossman passes, or in a hockey game, not counting a shot that ends up being saved by a goalie (but not blocked by a defenseman!) as a shot on goal. Djokovic looks unstoppable today. Nadal is going to need a huge effort to win 3 straight sets on him. Edit: Scoreline looks one-sided, but that is in contention with Tsonga/Federer at Wimbledon for match of the year. Certainly the highest level of tennis over a sustained period of time, both guys had points where they took control. It's just, when momentum was neutral Djokovic was a bit better. Raiders beat the Doncs The Raiders and the refs tried to give it away, but Denver proved much too incompetent. A perfect way to open the season (both in that the Raiders won and the Broncos lost) but a much more consistent and disciplined effort will be necessary if the Raiders want to win against actual NFL-calibre opponents.
Do you follow any Australian Rugby League Banzai? I'm looking foward to Michael 'Madge' Maguire coming back to coach Souths.
Dead on, Agreen. They struck again tonight, in the Stevenage-Sheffield Wednesday match. Wednesday had two players on the bench called Johnson, and appeared on the subs bench with their shirt numbers next to their name. However, they both came on at half-time with no difference noted between them. So it read [Player name] (Johnson 46) twice. Confusing enough - especially when you consider one of them got sent off! Didn't make any errors with the Town game. We battered Sheffield United 3-0 at Bramall Lane, knocking them off their perch at the top of the table. We're now up to 3rd, and we've not played well yet.
Another night of UEFA CL encounter...My guys did well against Barca. Now is ManUTD... Benefica you again?
Nice thrilling game against the Rockies last night. Finally won on a nice hit from Braun in the 11th inning.
Bugger. Our County Championship titles record is under threat. Lancashire have drawn within 22 titles. But we're still winning 31-9.
Fielder's been making comments on how "this is probably the last year" for him as a Brewer. Gee, thanks Prince. We offer you a five-year, $105 million deal last year, same as Ryan Braun's deal now, and you spit on it. The bigger payroll teams have first basemen already, and you're beloved, idolized and well-paid here as is, plus you're with a brilliantly-stocked, close-knit team. And you spit on it. Thanks. 1/4 of me wants to say "Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out," but the other 3/4 of me is begging him not to go. The Braun-Fielder one-two punch is the center of this team.
