Excellent question...... I watched it and not only did it seem slow, it seemed rather pointless. No offense to biathlon athletes, because they ARE talented, but I see more point in snowboarding, figure skating and moguls, things of that sort, than the biathlon. (Or curling, for that matter. But again, no offense.)
Curling is literally the worst sport in the world, but it's still challenging to do, and very much an Olympic worthy sport. It's just completely unwatchable. The Biathlon owns. I think many sports could be greatly improved by the random insertion of firearms. Just try landing a quad and shooting a target at the same time, or keeping control of your bobsled while skeet shooting. In fact, that may be the solution to improving curling- once per end instead of shooting a rock, you can take a shot at a rock
I actually watched some of a curling match. It was between the US and Germany. A lot more goes into it than I thought, but it's still boring to watch. If curling is going to stay an olympic sport, then they shoudl make golf a olympic event also. Think about it, Tiger Woods returns to the world of golf by winning a gold medal for the US.
We are going up, say, we are going up! I'm back from the 2-0 win at Hartlepool and I'm delighted by it. We didn't play particularly well, but, and I hope you're sitting down for this, we won a penalty and super Gary Roberts duly dispatched it to put us a goal up before the Champagne SuperNovak scored his tenth goal of the season. Unfortunately L**ds managed to spawn a 109th minute equaliser against 10-man Brighton (a side we tonked 7-1 earlier in the season) meaning Town are still 9 points off an automatic promotion spot. However, Millwall did lose, and that means Town are back in the play-off places, sparking talk of a Town-L**ds play-off final. Part of me (the bit that enjoys sticking it to L**ds at every opportunity) wants it to happen. To beat L**ds at Wembley in front of 90,000 people would be heaven. Anyway, in other West Yorkshire football news, Bradford City lost to Accrington. 2-0. And are 18th in League Two. Stop sniggering at the back.
A truly inspirational way to get back into the sport, and yet some would still hate him. Speaking of the now infamous Tiger Woods, did anyone see his big speech? I read the transcript first and thought it was sincere. I have since seen the video and decided completely differently--the way he spoke was absolutely robotic and it looked to me that he was just spouting crap. If he really wanted to gain forgiveness, he needs to put himself in the path of possibly more pain, like answering questions and holding a press conference or getting interviewed by 20/20 and the like, instead of talking in front of a camera and refusing questions. If he shows he's willing to take himself out of a controlled environment, listen to and answer the tough questions, and thoroughly admit that he was wrong in every possible way--and do it sincerely--he has earned my respect, and maybe even my gradual forgiveness. Some may say that he's a pro athlete, and that they are only expected to do that kind of thing. I can give you a long list of pro athletes, sports icons in every sport, that have not done anything of the sort. Lou Gehrig. Michael Jordan. Joe Montana. The list can go on. Tiger is the exception, not the rule. Hopefully he's learned something from this, and makes another, more emotional, speech, preferably at a press conference.
Why does he owe the public an apology? I don't know him personally and couldn't care less what he does with his personal life. The only people to whom he owes an apology are his family and friends. Frankly, I think the sports media owe everyone an apology for wasting so much time on a story that has absolutely nothing to do with sports.
I agree with Agreen. The only person Tiger owes an apology to is his wife and other close family and firends.
The tone of my last post is a lot harsher than I meant, so sorry for that. I'm just frustrated at the constant prying into people's lives for what, at least to me, seems no good reason. It doesn't help that I don't care for golf. I suppose it's a consequence of putting yourself in the public sphere, but I somehow doubt that the reporters prying into the personal life of Woods and his family would be appreciative if the same was done to them. I've wanted to get a good sports media rant out for a while, and I guess this was finally my chance But I guess Tiger Woods raises the question of what do we expect of athletes? I remember the backlash Charles Barkley took when he said he didn't want to be a role model, and yet I remember agreeing with him- he is/was brilliant at his sport, but that doesn't mean he is or even should be an exemplary human being. As much as I love sports, and seeing athletes perform, I'm not comfortable when the Federers, Oveckins, Mannings and Woods of the world are called heroes. I don't expect them to be. This does not prevent Oveckin from being the single most awesome human being to ever walk the earth, even if he doesn't play for Canada.
I agree. Woods should return to golf ASAP, because he's a great player if not a great person. However, I would have liked his apology to be more sincere. Maybe it's just a girl thing (because maybe guys couldn't care less), but I can't cheer for a player that I don't respect as a player and as a person. A player may be great, but if he's not a good person I can't stand behind him. Which is why I cheer for people like Drew Brees, who are both exemplary players and human beings. Maybe it's just a girl thing, but I like to personally identify with the sports figures.
People are already making their Super Bowl XLV predictions. Normally, I would say it's too early, but since all of the predictions list my Packers as early favorites, I'm okay with it. My theory: Right away I think it's safe to say we can eliminate the Lions, Rams, Bucs, Chiefs, Raiders (sorry Agreen), Seahawks, Bills, Redskins, Browns and (obviously, although I'm biased here) Da Bears. Panthers, Jags, Bengals, Dolphins, Broncos, 49ers, Falcons and Texans are most likely out too. Cardinals without Warner will take time to adjust and won't get to Dallas this year. The Ravens won't be there either. I don't think the Saints will show up for a repeat appearance, not when 29 of their guys' contracts are up and they're last in the draft this year. The Jets are a maybe, as are the Cowgirls, although with all the pressure on Romo and his team to play in their home stadium, it's not likely they'll come through. My bets to get the closest: AFC: Colts, Jets, Steelers NFC: Vikings (pains me to say it), Giants and Packers I don't think the Jets will manage to make it. The Colts will come up close, but the Steelers will have even more drive to get back to the Big One and get to the Superbowl. Minnesota relies far too much on QB, so if Favre is gone, they're done. If he comes back, the Pack will be better prepared to meet them and we will sweep this year. Giants will get their act together, so it may be a repeat of the 2007 NFC game, with less disastrous results. But the Pack is stronger than the Giants overall. NFC Champ Game: Packers over Giants (sweet revenge! ) AFC Champ Game: Steelers over Colts I predict a Packers/Steelers Superbowl, and if you look at the predictions thus far, I have read many similar predictions/opinions. Plus, the 2 most decorated teams in the NFL? In the biggest game of the year? Bring it on!!! Lombardi is coming home in 2010-2011.
Did anyone see the Australian men's bobsled team ride half the circuit on their roof We (Australia) SOOO should NOT be allowed to participate in an event that they have little time to actually practice.
It is a very challenging course, and there's been some problems with practice time. Of course our Own the Podium antics backfired when our bobsled team also crashed.
There are a few things I can think of that would be the AFL? I don't follow Australian rules football because it only gets sparse coverage here. I've watched a few games but I can't quite figure it out. LT released by the Chargers. For obvious reasons, I don't like the Chargers at all, but this is still sad. Between Schottenheimer and Turner, the Chargers have squandered the career of the greatest player in their history. As for a Superbowl prediction, I'm going with the Raiders over the Cowboys. The Superbowl all the other fans hated
It is sad to see LT go. But going to another team may be good for him. I just hope he gets a superbowl win before he retires. If any current player without a ring deserves it, it's him. Well LT and Mason.
Once you understabnd it its great. I'm not really into NRL, I was born and raised a Sydney Swans supportor. xD
I'm from nearish Sydney, and always been a true hater of those silly Swans. If i follow anyone, it's the Crow's. Like their style.
Who are you calling silly swans! When you go for a team like Crows you're hardly the one to make judgments!
The Swans have no grace. They have to be the most boring team to watch, week in, week out. Flooding and everything. Though Adam Goods (sp), is one of the best. I said i follow the Crow's but my point was i don't really follow it much since AFl has turned into a sport where any minor contact turns into some penalty. (Watched to many 80's games). Edit - I could go for Collingwood is you prefer?
WE ARE GOING UP, SAY, WE ARE GOING UP!!! We've just ended our hoodoo at Prenton Park. After TEN straight defeats there, we've beaten Tranmere 2-0 tonight with both goals coming from legend-in-waiting Lee Novak, who's up to 12 for the season (Press Association says 11; I disagree. The second goal on Saturday was his, not Trotman's). Him and Rhodes - or Rhovak, as they shall now be called - have 30 between them this season now.
They just wear out so quick these days. By 30, most of them are already near the end of their careers. Julius Peppers is not being resigned or tagged. He has an immense amount of talent, but he doesn't always live up to it. Someone's going to spend way too much on him.
