I have always hated the age argument in the NFL. In life, 30 is not old, but in the NFL, they treat you like you're about to drop dead. I understand and agree that a lot of players, especially players with positions like RB, CB, etc., do lose their speed and wear out in their 30s. But when people act like the young age of 30 is old, it makes me angry.

Yeah, especially with a favourite player it sucks to hear that just because he's 30 and not 29 he's done, when it's really more an individual thing. It's not so much that 30 is old, but that they've absorbed hundreds- perhaps thousands- of hits, and beyond that worn their bodies out in practice and in games. To step outside football, in tennis some are speculating that even though he's only 23, Raphael Nadal is already on the downside of his career, because his style of play has taken such a toll on his body. His knees especially. It's just the effect that constant strain has on an athlete- even LT, for all his brilliance, is still human.

It's the same with footbal here. Many players even retire at 28 because they are told if they are not at the top of their game now (28) to move on.

Football i can understand (30), but other sports not so.(cricket, baseball, basketball)

Best to be a punter i suppose ;D

That's right. Hardly ever get hit and you only have like less than half the pressure of a kicker.

This is why I am very proud of Brett Favre--40 years old and still rockin'. Glad to see people shut up about age (in his case).

And yes, it usually is an individual thing, but with players like Charles Woodson, who is in his 30's, and Donald Driver, they're still playing amazingly well. I hate the age argument, and when there's players that defy it, it makes me smile. :D

Almost 22,000 tickets sold for Saturday's crunch derby match against L**ds. The Kilner Bank has sold out, so I'll be on a packed terrace (no way am I sitting down on Sat - this is one of the biggest matches I'll ever have been to, so if some jobsworth tries to make me sit down I'll be telling him where to go) cheering the Town on against 'that lot'. I predict a sell-out crowd of almost 25,000. Not bad for the Third Division.

Urgh. All that I care about is the Olympics. I'm tired of turning on SportsCenter and only seeing baseball and basketball. Not looking forward to March in the sports world. Although I'm excited for the draft. Too bad it's not sooner.

    That day is here :D

Huddersfield Town v L**ds United. The West Yorkshire Derby. Forget Bradford City, Halifax Town, Farsley Celtic, Wakefield... This is the only one that really matters.

    Come on, Town!!!

Many interesting trade rumors...... LT, TO, Sproles, Westbrook, Cromartie......where will they all end up?

LT is aging, so I don't want him. TO is a disease to every team he's on--horrible attitude and not good play, either. Sproles and Cromartie are a very strong possibility for us, but TT (Ted Thompson, GM) doesn't exactly go after players in free agency (look at the Moss situation), so he will probably, as usual, come very close to signing guys, only to watch them slip away. I like TT great, but I can't stand his way of letting the chips fall where they may instead of going after players. I also can't stand his press conferences, because he never ANSWERS A QUESTION. He goes about the question in this roundabout way that's not even answering, but he treats it like an answer. He's a great GM, but sometimes......
MM (Mike McCarthy) doesn't beat around the bush like TT, which is why I prefer MM.

    Westbrook? Eh, maybe.

Trade rumors are surrounding Randy Moss that THIS time, he may actually come to GB. Interesting, veeerrry interesting. ;)

Many times before, I have heard the whiny arguments of our rivals--Chicago, Detroit and Minnesota. "We're losing", "Our football team sucks", etc. "Don't you feel sorry for us?" they ask. I've heard them bemoaning the Vikings, Bears and Lions forever.

Um, no. Chicago, yeah, you have a bad football team, but if you think I'm gonna feel sorry for the city that got to watch MICHAEL JORDAN play for them, you're absolutely insane. You had a legend, so don't complain about your 1 SB win.

Detroit, I feel sorry for your economic situation, but you don't even NEED a football team! You've got the DETROIT RED WINGS!!!! THE RED WINGS!!!! One of the, if not THE, greatest hockey franchise ever! Don't complain about your lack of Lombardis when you have so many Stanleys.

And Minnesota...... I don't know of any team you can turn to. The Vikings are never truly AWFUL, but they never win, and I would say that's worse than having no hope at all.

I'm not trying to bash any team. I just get tired of the Minnies/Michies/Illies complaining all the time. Especially since the Sconnies have never had anything to complain about, not even in the 70s/80s.

I can't feel bad for Viking fans. There are plenty of cities who's teams flat out suck. It's better to have franchises that play well, though rarely win titles than it is to watch teams play horrible year in and year out.

    ^ That's what I mean. :D

Plus, being from Wisconsin, I can muster no sympathy. I've tried. Nearly blew a blood vessel. It's impossible.

In that case, I can't imagine you trying to muster some sympathy for Bear fans. :p

So after all the fun and excitement of the Olympics, regular NHL play resumes. I was checking the schedule and the standings, and was met with a horrible surprise. The Leafs are even worse than I remembered :(

Their opponents tomorrow are Carolina, the 2nd worst team in the East. I'd thought the Leafs were only a couple of points behind them, but it turns out they're like 5 back. Still, a win tomorrow means they're almost within striking range? As long as they win on Saturday. I'm going to see them live in Ottawa on Saturday with my Senators-fan best friend. He got bragging rights last time, so I'm hoping for a miracle this time.

"Da Bears" and their fans get no sympathy. That SNL skit about them? Yeah, totally accurate.

So you're a goalie. Your team has a powerplay. The puck comes into your zone, you play it behind the net. An opposing forechecker is coming towards you. Your team's top offensive defenseman is on the boards to your right. What do you do?

If you said move the puck to your own goalmouth and give up a free short-handed goal, you can be a Maple Leafs.

We really are worse than I remembered :(

I checked ESPN's NFL site, and the first thing I see is.......a photo(shopped) illustration of Tim Tebow in a (very sharp, very awesome) Packers uniform. My first thought: "Did Aaron lose his job to......?"

Tebow to the Packers. Very interesting. I don't know though.

But question, just to talk about: Which teams in the NFL do you think have the best uniforms? I love the Packers uniforms (obviously). They're very good looking, very sharp, iconic..... :D

    Saints uniforms aren't bad either.

The Raiders. None are even close. They are literally perfect, especially the colour scheme and logo. They sum up the team and fanbase perfectly. I also like Baltimore's uniforms. I hate Denver's uniforms, and Tampa's. Denver's because 1. it's Denver and 2. they are odious, and Tampa's because it's an attempt to rip off the Raiders. The Toronto Maple Leafs alternate (especially the old alternate I take my avatar from) are the best in sports.

So we lost 5-1 and expanded our lead in the basement to 7 points.

Even worse, we traded Alexei Ponikarovsky. I knew this trade was coming, and in fact I was somewhat looking forward to it. At best I hoped for a 1st round pick or high level prospect, or at least a 2nd and decent prospect. We're getting instead a prospect who splits his time between the AHL and ECHL, Luca Caputi. Just awful :(

The Ravens uniforms look nice. Both their normal hom colors and their black uniform. The Saints, Rams and Bengals have nice ones also.

OK, so, we got mullered last night. Which is embarrassing. Just didn't turn up.

Having read the manager's comments, I'm fairly certain that we're going to turn around against Gillingham and absolutely wallop them with an almighty backlash. If I were a Gillingham fan, I'd be extremely worried about being on the wrong end of a half-dozen-goal thrashing on Saturday.

    RIP Keith Alexander.

The Macclesfield manager passed away at the age of 53 last night after his side's visit to Notts County. Proper football man, an honest man and a real loss. Very sad.

Raiders unis are actually very cool, I agree.

But how can you not love these?

Seriously, HOW good looking is that uniform?! Those colors just scream pride, classic, awesomeness....... very sharp looking, attractive to the eye, perfect, bright..... (not to mention that the guy wearing the uniform in the picture is totally smokin' hot, not to mention talented..... :p) Green and gold go perfectly together. May not sound like it, but when you see the green and gold..... magnificent. ;)
