Welcome to the discussion JFree! It surprises me how the Redskins are so RICH, and yet they're so bad. You'd think they'd spend that money on the good players, but it doesn't always work out for some reason. I approve (somewhat) of this trade. Philly was at a plateau. McNabb was consistant, and he is fantastic (I would even say borderline HOF), but they were at a plateau; they weren't going to grow on offense keeping him there. Washington could use him. He adds instant credibility to an offense, that's for sure. And now Kolb gets his chance to start after 3 years of sitting behind a prolific passer (this sounds really familiar). They're comparing Kolb to Rodgers, too.
In the first game of the season, the Boston Red Sox defeated their nemesis, the evil empire, 9-7. Go Sox!
New York buys championships. Also fact. The thing I hate about baseball is that if your team is rich, you can buy a championship by offering huge contracts to all the best players. If you're a team that's not as rich, you don't have as much of a chance. However my Brewers lost, 5-3. Oh well. :/
You're not alone--I follow the Brewers, but really I can't watch baseball like football. Baseball is okay to watch, just not all the time, every game.
I can't even watch football. I tried to watch the Stupid Bowl with my girlfriend. We made it to the half-time show. Though, she did a little dance when the Saints won. Yaaaay New Orleans!
I love watching football, very fun for me. Baseball, not as much. Basketball, straight-up NO. I danced when the Saints won too.
I do enjoy watching full-contact martial arts. Boxing, kickboxing, MMA, even stuff like Kyokushin karate. Grappling is alright too, but usually when it is either two very proficient fighters or one good one against an awful fighter. Both are entertaining, in their own ways.
My dad likes watching that, but I could never get into it. Go figure. In other news, the NFL draft is only 17 days away!
This is a very good thing. The Jays picked up right where they left off, no hitter into the 7th ruined by the blow pen. Is it too soon for draft talk? If the Raiders can't get one of the top defensive tackles or Eric Berry, I want them to take either one of the OTs, or Rolando McClain. I want Mike Iupati, but guards aren't worth top ten picks- it might be worth trading back into the 2nd half of the first round to take him. Now that the Redskins won't be taking Clausen 4th, we might see some trades. Teams often seem to follow what worked the year before, and with Sanchez's success for the Jets, Washington might be able to get a good return for their spot. It's looking like the Lions are going to fluke into Suh or McCoy, because the Rams seem set on Bradford. I don't think he's the best prospect, he may not even be one of the ten best prospects.
Well, we were dire but won 2-0. Theo Robinson (again) got the goals. He's up to 13 for the season now, and has hit a rich vein of form in front of goal (when he isn't skying easy opportunities at 1-0). Theo's doubters, I hope you paid attention this evening.
Draft talk has been going on since the day after the Super Bowl, so no. The Packers have the #23 pick and we REALLY need an OLB, CB and tackles. Our offensive line is a sieve. :/ We need a guy to compliment Clay Matthews, and we need to start grooming CBs and tackles to take over for Woodson (although he won't need replacing for a while! ), Harris, Tauscher and Clifton. We're solid everywhere else, pretty much.
The Ravens have a late pick in the first round also, but their gm Ozzy, always seems to find great players in that area. In the later parts of the first round is when the Ravens got Ray Lewis, Flacco, their right tackle (the one with the movie about him, can't remember his name at the moment for some reason) and Ed Reed. As for other sports, other than mma, I don't watch them that much. Most of them seem kinda boring, and there's no way I could make it through a whole baseball game. Though there is one cool underground sport that I like called Slamball. It's like full contact basketball with trampolines. Here is it in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ouXw328WYI
Turns out the ref from last night is the cretin who reffed us at Hartlepool in February. It shows. He's atrocious. Not to mention biased against Peltier. Against Hartlepool he took great pleasure in not sending off a lad who'd just put in a truly shocking tackle, then spent the rest of Peltier's brief appearance pulling Pelts up for nothing. Last night he spent the game awarding foul throw after foul throw against Pelts while allowing the Oldham lads to do exactly the same. Oh, and he gave them every decision going, apart from one of the softest second bookings you're ever likely to see. He couldn't wait to send off their right-back. Or book out goalkeeper for timewasting about three seconds after he received the ball.
Toronto papers speculate that the Jays may lose 100 games this season. I believe the number will be closer to 200. Raiders are now apparently expressing interest in Jason Campbell. Please don't, I'd rather not give up an asset and stick with Gradkowski. What would be nice though is if Colt McCoy fell to them in the 2nd. At the very least his potential can't be any worse than anyone else we have, plus if he's not taken in the first there will be less pressure to rush him into starting. Edit: Here's the play of the year so far:
In case it's not clear from the gif, Keith Ballard, #2 for the Florida Panthers, throws the puck into his own net. He made the highlights earlier in the season when, attempting to smash his stick on the net after surrendering a goal, he struck his goalie's head and injured him. From SBnation, a site which hosts a number of sports blogs. It's like Bleacher Report if Bleacher Report wasn't worthless. It's my favourite sporting news and opinions site, even though their Raiders blog is... somewhat unbalanced. SBnation's Leafs site, Pension Plan Puppets, is one of the best, and the best that isn't a comedy site. Of course, the best hockey site on the net is still Down Goes Brown, and Bloge Salming is a close second. Speaking of worthless the Leafs are playing out the string in style with pride. Which is to say, they've checked out and are embarrassing themselves. Anyone who fails to give an effort over these last two games should be cut. Also, in consecutive nights the Toronto Raptors have lost both of their star players, presumably for the season. I can't think of a city Toronto's size with a run of sporting failure like it has had since 1993.
In footballing news, Town's owner is on the brink of making himself about half a billion quid better off. I said Championship football was the aim. Stuff that: Premier League, here we come! Watch out Manchester United, watch out Liverpool, watch out Arsenal, watch out Chelsea: we're coming to get our crown back! Those were the days, etc.
One season... One season where we do things the easy way. When will that be? When will the straightforward cruise to the League One title happen, when we destroy all comers and ease into the Championship at a canter? Why do we have to do it the hard way, every single season? Why do we bottle it and let rubbish like Colchester past us, who play long ball drivel and have no footballing quality? Season in season out for sixteen years, Town. One season is all I ask, where we slaughter them, where we have a fortress at home and on the road we're feared above all. When opposition fans flock to see us, not their own side. When, even when the chips are down, we have that one player in the middle of the park who will inspire and command, controlling the midfield with his never-say-die attitude and willingness to take man, ball and first three rows of the stand out in his desire to win. When will this happen, Town? We should have cruised to the Division Two title in '95 and only scrambled up through the play-offs. We should have been in the Premier League after being top of Division One at Christmas in 1999/2000. We should have been up automatically in 2004 (Pawel Abbott, I still haven't forgiven you for that backpass). We should be in the Championship now after being top of League One at Christmas in 2005/06. We should be top of this division now. And yet we mess up every time. We bottle it and scramble for success rather than cruise to it. Why? Oh, and if referees could please do the decent thing and just push off with their idiotic decisions, that'd be nice.
UFC 112 owned: Spoiler The co-main event was fantastic, because BJ Penn lost. It was a little bit like Shogun-Machida, if Shogun wasn't robbed by the judges decision. Also, the Anderson fight was hilarious, the best thing to happen in the UFC since the legendary Kimbo Slice vs. Houston Alexander disaster. According to some reporters on site, Dana White was so angry he threw the belt and walked out during the 4th round. He then said in the post-fight press conference that Anderson might be the first champion to defend his title on the prelims The only disappointment was Hughes-Gracie, but I didn't exactly have high hopes for it. Hopefully Hughes will fight someone who isn't over 40 and has some sort of striking in his next fight. I would love to see him get knocked out by Alves again Also, Go Leafs Go! Tonight's game is the most important of the year, the most important since the 2007 finale.
Damn it! Leafs won, but a couple of minutes too late. Montreal backs into the playoffs, thanks in part to another horribly reffed game- power plays were 5-1 in Montreal's favour. Hopefully the Flyers wins tomorrow so Montreal gets swept by Washington. They have lost their last 3 games, so I'm confident any of the top 3 seeds will annihilate them. Just hope brooms come out. Speaking of annihilation, TFC lost 4-1. Toronto sports pride! I don't think we're going to win a game this season. Until April 25th.
Dude, that Anderson Silva fight made me laugh the first few rounds, but then it just really pissed me off. I hate that everyone seems to expect Silva to make his fights all entertaining when the past few fights he's had have been with people who are too afraid to actually fight him. It should not be all on him to make things exciting. And what the heck was up with people cheering for Maia? Yeah, I would cheer for someone who spent the first four and a half rounds running away... /rant
