Crew 2, Yanks 5. Like I said, not looking forward to the series. In other news, I'm excited for the ESPYs. The Pack and our players and coaches are nominated for a lot of awards, so I'm hoping they win, and I really wanna see our boys again.
Kvitova v Sharapova Women's Final on Saturday. Should be good. Looking forward to the Men's Semi Finals tomorrow.
The word miserable doesn't cut the mustard on news that Anthony Pilkington has handed in a transfer request. So I've changed my avatar from him to Gary Roberts sticking the ball in the bastards' net, thus immortalising himself in song.
Don't give Gigi a hard time. It's not like she made any predictions. Series sweeps happen, but if I were a Brewers fan, the only thing I'd be really concerned about would be Greinke's meltdown Tuesday night. It looked like he let the pressure get to him, and that doesn't bode well.
It's cool, Ed. And yes, our pitching seriously worries me. 'If we had better pitching' seems to be the constant refrain.
Oscar Gobern has been confirmed as Town's second close-season signing, joining on a 2-year deal from Southampton. The fee is yet to be decided, and could go before a tribunal (and I hope it doesn't end up being a £500k+ thing). He's 20 years old, left-footed, plays in central midfield and turned down a new deal at Southampton to join Town. Yaaaas! Another signing! This time it's the star man of our play-off semi-final opponents, Bournemouth! They had Donal McDermott on loan there from Manchester City, and now he's decided to accept a 2-year contract from us to play for Town! Winger, can play on either flank, 21, has pace, will be a big star next season. (He is in no way related to Terry McDermott, our assistant manager).
Djokovic beat Tsonga and Nadal beat Murray. I expected that result, but it's a shame for Tsonga and especially Murray. Murray got the first set, but then he didn't play as well and Nadal just fought back and played very well. So, the Men's Final will be Nadal v Djokovic. Obviously, I'm supporting Nadal. Women's Final tomorrow. I'm supporting Kvitova. I think it'll be a good match.
Nadal never flinched after losing the first set, and then he just went on to dominate and grind down Murray. He was just too good!
Rangers splash out to sign Brad Richards for 9 years at $60 mil. He'll be over 40 when the contract expires, and it's front-loaded so they can't possibly sign their remaining restricted free agents, most of them home-grown talent like Brandon Dubinsky and Ryan Callahan. It's Scott Gomez all over again. How is it that pro sports management is so dominated by stupid people?
I ask myself that question a lot. I'm just happy the Packers have an amazing front office and GM. It's great to have trust in them.
It will look even worse when the new CBA comes into effect next year. Speaking of which, hopefully the new CBA will close the loophole that allows these cap circumventing deals to slip by, it's at the point where a 2-3 defenseman like Erhoff is getting 10 years just to soften the cap hit. The Kovalchuk deal last year was ridiculous, and there are rumours that Stamkos's contract might be over 15 years With the Richards contract, the Rangers could end up losing two of Dubinsky, Callahan, and Anisimov. You'd figure they'd learn after Holik, Redden, Gomez, and Drury. Richards is better than those four, but he's coming off of concussion problems. New York will be better next season, but the deal will hurt them a few years from now. I'm hoping the Leafs make a play for Anisimov The Leafs made their first signing today, Tim Connolly 2 years at $4.75 million. About a million more than I'd have liked, but that they managed to keep the deal so short makes up for it. If he stays healthy he should be the playmaker Kessel needs. If not, at least the Leafs aren't anchored to him for long. The Jays/Phillies game today was an object lesson in poor umpiring and worse anger management. At least Halladay pitched a complete game in his homecoming. edit: This is the contract in question, according to one of TSN's anchors: GMillerTSN Gord Miller Richards year by year: $12m, $12m, $9m, $8.5m, $8.5m, $7m, $1m, $1m, $1m. $10m SB+$2m the salary first year, $8m SB + $4m salary the second I'm actually not sure it's legal though, with the jump from $7m straight to $1m. TSN might be wrong. If not, this is what I meant about cap circumvention- 3 years at the end at an extremely reduced salary, at a point in which it's assumed Richards will retire. Those empty years lower the average salary of the contract, which reduces the cap hit. It's a major problem in the league right now. TSN also reports that if there is a lockout next year, Richards will still be paid $8m.
Brewers 8, Twins 7. And how! What a come-from-behind win! The Crew just went off in the 9th, pretty amazing. And finally a win, too!
And Djokovich wins his first Wimbeldon title. Woot! Although, I was sad that my favorite player lost to him, I have to hand it to Djokovich. He deserved it. He played tremendously well and there is no other player other than maybe Federer that could've given him a run for his money. He must feel great right now. He just won his first title being ranked number one in the world.
^ Djokovic isn't number one until tomorrow. I'm sad that Nadal didn't win, but it's nice for Djokovic and he did deserve it.
Why tommorow? Djokovich became number one when he beat Tsonga in the semi-finals. He's been number one for two days now.
Pilkington's off. £2m to Norwich. That's just the basic fee, there will probably be a load of add-ons taking it up to £3m or so. Hopefully, Anthony McNamee will come the other way and we'll still have 3 wingers fighting for their place in the team.
Back at hone for the series against the DBacks, thank god. We do so, SO much better when we're at home than when we're away.
