Home Run Derby was disappointing this year- nothing even close to Hamilton's performance a few years ago. I don't root for the Jays but it's too bad Bautista didn't make it further- he might well be the best player in the league right now but, like with Doc Halladay early in his career with the Jays, he doesn't get nearly as much attention and hype as he deserves.
The Marlins. They will lead an unprecedented undefeated post- All Star break charge to snatch their division, then roll through the playoffs. Only to succumb to the resurgent Baltimore Orioles in the end
As long as the Crew makes the playoffs, the rest of the league can sort itself out. And Prince Fielder named MVP. Please, Brewers, pay this man so he can stay longer than this year.
I'm glad Rodgers won Best NFL Player, but I wish we won Best Team. I know the ESPYs don't matter, but.... Luckily the NFL lockout could come to an end next week. Fingers crossed!!
Anyone else watch the American - French soccer match this afternoon? I thought that the Americans got away with quite the steal in that one. We were outplayed by the French for 70% of that match.
They play again next week. It's fun getting to hate the Orioles for once. I actually remember that they exist now
Hey, Gigi, your Brewers are looking pretty good now that they got K-Rod for a setup man. Wonder how he'll feel, knowing that he isn't getting that $17 million "closer's bonus" that Terry Collins had him going for. My guess is that he'll want to show everyone what a great guy he is so that he can sign with the Yanks next winter. (Just kidding, although Mariano has to give out sooner or later).
On another note, I see that some of the better players in the NBA are looking at signing with teams overseas now that they are locked out here. I hope they all go. Can't wait to see Jimmy Dolan trying to charge those jacked-up prices so fans can watch CBA-level play. Also, memo to NHL owners: you're next. It will be a wonderful thing when pro sports franchise owners have to face up to the fact that their monopoly only extends as far as both coasts. Not that they'll do anything about it. Most likely, they'll keep trying to impose their small-market mentalities and their hard salary caps until the best basketball and hockey players are all someplace else. Then, the big market teams - say, somewhere between six and ten in both hockey and basketball - will decide they've had enough, and will break off and form rival leagues with either no salary cap or more liberal ones. At that point, the phrase "major league" will have regained some of its meaning.
Hell yeah. The excitement here is pretty big, it's all anyone's talking about. So glad we got him, too. And was that a Sabathia reference?
Miller's performance costed us the game in the end. But the hitters made a good stand. In other news: the only time I root for the Jays is when they put the Yanks 1.5 games behind the Sox, yeah!
