Hopefully we'll keep him around for a while.

I think it will depend on what kind of role he gets. He was willing to be a setup man to get out of a bad situation in New York, but I think he still considers himself a closer. So, unless the Brewers can move him into that role, I have a hard time seeing him there past this season. Still, you never know.

I cannot believe how bored I am right now. The lack of competitive football really is grating. Friendlies don't cut the mustard - and we don't have one of those at home this season (they are better than nothing, and last season saw us beat Blackburn 1-0 with a screamer from Joey Gudjonsson). I don't want to see Town's youngsters play against some lowly non-League outfit while the team rotates for match fitness. I want to see the first XI taking on someone in a proper competitive clash.

Roll on August 6th and the match with Bury. It may be League One, but it's competitive football. Even if the opposition might be the same I've watched us face for nine of the last ten years.

I'm happy for Japan. I think the U.S. outplayed them overall, but where it counts (the score) they did not.

I had fallen asleep listening to the game, but now it's in the 15th inning and I can't let this end without me!

edit: PD singled bringing V-tek home. 1-0 Red Sox.

edt2: Whoo! Sox win after 16 innings and with Papelbon as the closer! Nice game, guys, nice game.

Very pleased Darren Clarke won the Open. Such a likeable, solid citizen.
And for the first time in quite a few years it's very difficult to pick a winner as the Tour de France enters its final week...Exciting stuff.

I wonder how much the players will have given up.

At this point, I'd just be grateful for football, no matter what.

    Oh dear...

Which is one way of looking at the way the County Championship match is heading. The other phrase is 'oh fuck' as that lot from over the Pennines have us down at 44-7. To say that's pathetic is an understatement.

NY Red Bulls will be in London next week to play Paris St. Germain and Arsenal in the Emirates Cup. This is gonna hurt. At least it will be a win for the Gunners.

Oh, so Arsenal do get to win one competition this coming season...

Another brutal, mesmerising day in the Alps in the Tour de France. By some strange coincidence I'm seem not to be working as the race reaches it climax...

Strikeforce: Fedor Vs. Henderson next week! Even though it's a fight that should have happened years ago, it should still be one he'll of a fight. No way this fight is going to a decision.

The current Test match between England and India is a cracker. Well, if you're an England fan. We've been tremendous so far. Pietersen's double hundred in the first innings was great, but Matt Prior's just made 103 to save England's second innings. We've declared with a lead of 458. India have 2 hours tonight and another 7 tomorrow to accumulate the runs, and we have that time to get them bowled out. Staurt Broad has been in great form in this game, taking 4-37 and making 74, so if he performs with the ball again we ought to win.

I'd agree, it's been a good match- I'd love to agree with you but my inner pessimist reckons it's meandering towards a draw. Will hopefully be proved wrong though, at least it's not meant to rain I guess :p

It's finely poised I reckon. All 4 outcomes are possible right now. It is interesting that Tendulkar has been dropped down the order by the Indians. It also remains to be seen if the lad with the elbow injury will bat - that could prove pivotal.

Aguero to Manchester City: Confirmed! Be interesting to see who ends up moving away now- with Aguero, Djeko, Balotelli and Tevez, as well as Adebayor and Bellamy coming back from loans, I'd imagine at least two will be on their way out.

You've gotta laugh. In spite of all the transfer activity City's strongest eleven is still weaker than Man Utd's and Chelsea's and probably Arsenal's...and that's on paper.... before one even begins to consider those intangibles like cohesion and team spirit. Third at best, and then, only if Arsenal lose Fabregas.

I dunno, on paper I'd say they were on a par with any of them.

While I'd agree the backline isn't as strong as Vidic/Ferdinand or Terry/Luiz, it definitely beats whoever Arsenal have got there. Even with Vermaelen back (top player) all their other CB's like Koscielny, Squillachi, Djourou are liabilities. I'd rate Hart above Szczesny and Almunia as well.

Midfield and up-front I'd say they should be better than anyone. Based on last season Silva is the best midfielder in the Prem bar none imo, and Johnson and Toure are scary going forward too. Apart from Rooney/Hernandez I can't see a striking partnership that comes close to Tevez/Aguero on paper either.

I still don't think they'll win anything though, don't see it gelling for a while yet. Unfortunately I reckon eventual success is inevitable but I'll be laughing at their failures while I can :p
