Well I guess I'm back now. Word to the wise- fishing in Clear Lake, Iowa is abysmal unless you have a hard on for yellow bass. Unfortunately, I do not. In fact, the DNR just killed out an old lake down here called 12 Mile for having an overpopulation. The scurvy little bastards breed like rabbits and take all the food! It's a damn shame, that lake was OLD and I bet there were some giants in it. I used sinking bait (worm/leech harness) in an attempt to get under them since they prefer shallow water- hoping I could snag a nice walleye. Apparently, Clear Lake is also very shallow, so I could never get away from them. The deepest part we came across was about 15 feet. I could harldy believe my eyes to see all the fishing boats out there fishing specifically for yellow bass by jigging over the side. It's less fun than catching a bluegill. They must taste like gold or something...
I told you, you had to go fishing at Saylorville Lake. Okay, so I didn't... But you should have! (No, of course I've never been there)
If you're fishing in Minnesota, you've got to be quiet if you catch a fish. Otherwise the lovely MN fishermen will gladly come swarm your fishing spot. I guess that's a common tactic up there?
Welcome back, Rob!! Sorry to hear about your fishing woes. Wrey is right, by the way...you were missed.
I'm going to say my farewells for an eight or nine day break. I'm pushing off to Devon for a while with the family, where hopefully I'll rediscover the ability to write more than 200 words before wanting to hit backspace. Cheerio for a while.
Just booked my 6 week volunteer project in Ghana for September. Should be really good experience, glad to help out over there and who knows it may even provide some inspiration for writing.
Thanks all. I shall indeed have fun I'm off first thing tomorrow morning, mind, so you've still got a few hours of me yet. And photos for someone, eh? That sounds like a tremendous experience, Donal. When you get over there, have a great time.
Things have changed. And to think life was going so well for so long...but things have changed. I'm leaving, I'm sorry to say this to you all. I'm sorry. I don't know if I'll be back. Maybe I'll be back in a few months, maybe a year, maybe never... Goodbye, I'll miss you all.
I'm sorry 'mingo, I hope you come back! I'm going to be gone (as of tomorrow) to go build some houses for habitat for humanity until the 30th
