Anything by Nicolas Sparks, I'm not a fan of. Too boring and is flooded with so much cliche. :/

I know what you mean! I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (which is obviously only written in part by Austen) and I thought her writing style was snooty. It almost sounds condescending. It's eloquent and lovely, very "pretty", if you will, but...I don't know. Snooty is the only way I can describe it. Snobby. PAPAZ was fun, though. I quite liked it aside from Austen's style.

I definitely agree with you there. Jane Austen may be a classic, but when I recently tried to pick up Pride and Prejudice again, I found that her style WAS incredibly snooty and she just blathers. I prefer the Bronte sisters.

    Hate me if you must:

    Hemmingway
    Steinbeck
    Tolstoy

I feel like all the happiness in the world is imploding when I had to read their books for school.

I giggled at Meyer's work being called "thesaurus rape," though I don't think they're the worst books ever written, simply mediocre.

p.s. all the Austen hate? I love her books, though I think I enjoy the stories more than the actual writing

I'd say The Kindly Ones by Jonathan Littell.. the themes are interesting but I was seriously annoyed by his overuse of rank titles, it broke the story pace. And add to that the fact that it was 1000 pages long.. taking me over a month to finish it.

New Moon by stephenie Meyer on my second read through. I admit the first time I read the twilight series I breezed through them in three days, and Twilight was a decent enough reread but much of its magic was lost though. New moon, on the other hand, was just painfully boring the second time through. Eclipse and Breaking dawn still await their reread, but after New moon I'm dreading it.

The Damnation Game by Clive Barker. I was going into expecting everything, but none of my expectations were met. Just too descriptive for my taste.

Soul of Fire the fifth installment of the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.
Imagine the first 100 pages filled with a dread and fear of a demonic CHICKEN! The ending was good enough, but god it was a pain to get there!

Of course I must tell you, I'm neurotic in a way that when I start reading a book, I need to finish it, whether I like it or not.

Oh and I forgot Wuthering Heights
A classic, but it couldn't grasp my attention.

What did you think of the rest of the Goodkind series? I've read only the first novel, which was quite simple, but I enjoyed his style. I just want to know in case I decide to continue the series.

I like his style too.. it's like a easy way in into the fantasy genre.
The second installment is much like the first. The action is mainly packed in the latter chapters.
The third and fourth are splendid. I enjoyed them a lot, especially the third, which is up until now my favourite, (read until the fifth, but taking them up soon, already bought and paid the rest of the series).

IMO.. If I were you I'd continue, and skip the fifth. You won't be missing much and the essential parts will be repeated in the next one.
That was another aspect that bugged me, but I guess its common when one reads a series. The constant repitition in the novels, of what happened in the previous ones.
When you read them with substantial amounts of time between them, it can prove helpful, but when reading one after another like I did with the first five, it's plain annoying.
But I'm just being difficult now. :)

You should read any interview with Goodkind.
You are then almost guaranteed to not like him.

Alright, I'll most likely continue it then, when I get time of course haha. And I'll make sure to put a nice space of time between reads, since I don't want to get too annoyed. XD

And Rob, I'll make sure not to do that then.

Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret was the stupidest thing I have ever read. It's horribly written and the protagonist whines on and on for ages about all this stuff happening to her. Um, no one cares? I wouldn't mind if romance was a small part of the book but that's ALL THERE IS, that and puberty and all this crap. I don't mind hearing about it, but really, going on for a whole book about puberty and romance really annoys the crap out of me.

Hey don't take your issues with the writer out on the books :D
Then Salinger wouldn't have sold more than 10 copies of Catcher!

I know, but it's hard not to. Especially when they're exceedingly arrogant and seem to constantly mock other writers and even their own readers.

I did not know that! Mock their own readers.. what a douche!
Feel bad now for buying his books and adding to his wealth. Still a decent read though, he's got that at least

Speaking of douche writers, STEPHEN. KING. IS. ONE. OF. THEM.

I hate majority of his books with a few exceptions (Misery, The Shining, maybe 1 or 2 more). Plus he acts like a douche a lot of the time. The only thing I have ever liked and agreed with when he said it was, and I quote: "JK Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good."

You wouldn't believe the fuss he has gotten over that, on his own official forum. :D
    Many twilight fans seeking retaliation!

    He's right though.

And honestly, all I've seen of Stephen King has made me think he's an awesome guy. I don't like all his books, but he's certainly capable of churning out work of a very good quality, too.

Plus, his son is my favourite author of all, so he must be doing something right.

I admit that I'm a constant reader. I began reading his novels at the dawn of puberty and haven't stopped since. I do mix it up with a lot of other authors though.
And which son.. I'm suspecting Joe Hill.. but Owen does write too :)
But Joe is wicked. I haven't read Horns myself, but definitely on my to do list.

Joe. I've never read any of Owen's writing.

Horns is really good. I went to meet him at a signing, with my girlfriend, and we both got signed copies. And he was a really nice guy.

None of the major authors come to Belgium for a signing and I don't make nearly enough money to go to them. :D
Hope he stays down to earth and not let the success get to him.

No surprise there. I saw a couple of response videos on youtube and they were vicious. Of course the replies were hillarious as everyone was pointing out how wrong they were.

He definitely IS right there. And there's really no sufficient argument that can be made to say otherwise.

But that's all I will say on the topic.

The Wayward Bus by John Steinbeck was awful. I love his other books, but I couldn't STAND the characters in that book. They were either horrible people or totally bland IMO.
