I'm using the Duck Duck Go privacy browser on MacOS. It does a pretty good job with pop-ups and also has a feature to automatically handle those pop-up cookie requests that a lot of sites have. My other browser of choice is Vivaldi, which is available across platforms and has a number of privacy options that can be enabled, including pop-up blockers. I like Firefox but haven't used it much in the last couple of years.
When staff treat the office area as a breakroom (we DO have a breakroom, by the way). There have been so many times im in a virtual meeting at my desk and the other staffers are laughing and dancing and yelling across the cubicles. My cubical neighbor is trying to do her video reviews (as part of her job) and has to keep starting over because of the background noise. She literally went to one of the closets to record! I cant take phone calls without it being loud..... (I mean im not saying be quiet as a mouse, but maybe NOT yell and scream and cackle like hyena across the room because you're too lazy to get out of your chair and walk over to the person) Im trying to silence the passive aggressive/petty thoughts but i kind want to play my music out loud, turned all the way up and tell them to f-off when they tell me to turn it down Fight me (Wait, this should have gone in the "Things that Annoy me and Should" thread)
One would think. Im bringing it up at the next staff meeting. I dont care if i lose "friends" amongst staff. I dont even want to be here anyway
More than once, I've had a lot of trouble understanding customer service people because of what was obviously shouting and laughter from adjoining cubicles, usually after being told that my call may be recorded for quality control purposes. Is anybody listening to these recordings? AT&T seems to be the worst offender.
The way youtube has turned from a place where people uploaded things they found funny or interesting into a business for content "creators." "Creators" because many/most of the actual creators I follow are spending a lot of their time bitching about being demonetized for this or that infraction which totally, utterly shouldn't be a thing at all while the channels that do nothing but scrape other youtube channels and TikTok* and endlessly regurgitate content are doing fine. Spoiler: * The very first time I saw the word "TikTok" was in a headline warning that it was probably Chinese spyware. Well done, Chairman Xi!
Having just spent the last two days dealing with government offcials in two different countries... government officials. Or is that a thing that annoys me but should?
I just watched some guy filming himself prancing up and down in front of a train station. Presumably making a TikTok video. I mean, why? Is that what passes for entertainment these days?
Guest: hey you should order more of these book club books. Me: we have 2 more copies upstairs. Guest: but it should be a book club book. Me: are you looking to start a book club? Guest: no.... Me: do you want me to get you the copy from upstairs? Guest: i've already read it. Me: Guest: Me: ok.... (Me to me: well that was awkward....)
For a long time, I considered multi-level marketing to be the slimiest possible business model, but I hadn't figured on the currently (and increasingly) ubiquitous auto-shipment swindle.
this whole scenario: person asks to use the computer (they need a pass) I print a pass for them and ask if they've used our computers before (answer is 'no') I explain the numbers on the pass and where to enter them in to login to the computer. person rolled their eyes and walked away.
Followed a link on a blog I enjoy and was offered the opportunity to watch the new trailer for the new Barbie movie. One minute and forty-four seconds, and it about wore me out. I'm not the target demographic, but I have no idea how anyone could sit through an hour and a half of that frenzy.
thought it was funny (-blushes- i also had barbies and Kens/Stevens so its nostalgic to the the different actresses playing Barbies and hilarious to see how stupid and clueless blond Ken is.) its kind of like when Aqua made fun of Barbie in their song Barbie Girl. I dont think the movie is trying to take itself seriously-- and thats what makes it funny to me. Normally trailers these days give away the entire plot and i dont even want to watch. but this one... i have no idea whats going on and i kind of want to see the movie to know whats going on!
Yeah, but my Barbies worked a ranch, had horses, and adventures that involved breaking limbs falling off cliffs they were scaling to save on kittens or something. They weren't much for the dating scene and recognized Ken as poor breeding stock given his lack of, um, parts. My grandmother made me a pile of clothes for my dolls (I still have dolls and clothes) so they were exceptionally well-dressed ranchers and rock climbers.
"poor breeding stock; given his lack of, um, parts" Dontcha just love it; when it's rendered down to the basics.
This shouldnt annoy me, because everyone has their own opinions and what not. but, my boss just discovered ChatGPT. He asked me if i ever heard of it. I said yes (and thought it was the end of the conversation) He then tells me i should make an account with it because it can write out my emails for me (he's told me before that the "tone" of my emails are problematic), and it can write my program descriptions for me..... And then said "you can even have it write your stories! I know you like writing but why would you even have to with this tool?? Its the future!!"
I sense an opportunity for malicious compliance. use Chat gpt got for all your work correspondence from now on… when it goes completely to shit, well big boss , boss told me to
