Same here, and gifts too. I've been trying for years to get my family to stop giving gifts to the adults. Kids are another matter.
Anyone ever tell you that you look just like Harrison Ford (though I don't think he was in Phantom of the Opera)?
When on occasion, and for whatever unknown reason (such as today), your system flatly refuses to allow you to get pissed, so instead of gradually feeling more and more merry, you just feel more and more ill.
people who post stuff and ask "what do you think" or "thought?" and then basically tell you your thoughts dont matter when its not the answer they want... Spoiler a friend from high school posted a picture of a little boy dressed as a disney princess and said its disgusting and asks for thoughts. Myself and another lady expressed that there was nothing wrong with it. he basically tells us that we wouldnt have a problem with it because we are females, but any respectable man would have a problem with their son in a dress and said he wanted to hear from a MAN on this topic not a woman. I was PISSED.... but after my initial comment, i left it alone. no use arguing with a person who has no interest in changing his mind.
I think he was in error, I found that fat free foods tasted like they had substituted motor oil got the natural fats and oils.
I think there was an ad campaign that went something like: "If you want someone's attention, whisper"
Professional football/footballers (as in soccer). Money doesn’t buy breeding and professional footballers are the grossest example of that fact.
That's because fat gives food taste. When they remove the fat, it results in a pretty foul, chemically taste so they load it up with sugar to conceal it. Compare any fat-free dessert with regular ones, and you'll notice the carb count is through the roof, all of which are substitute sugars. Just don't eat them. If you must cut down fat, eat more fruit and vegetables.
Me: -types- "without a care in the world" Autocorrect: Without a CAR in the world Me: -types- "I leaned against the fence" Autocorrect: A leaned against the fence Me: -types- "I snagged my gown on the rose bush" Autocorrect: I snagged my GROWN on the rose bush ...... duck off, Autocorrect!
Movies and tv series that distort history, especially when it's politically motivated... Many people think I'm overreacting, and life would be much easier if I ignored it, but there are people who are being wrongly accused or wrongly praised because of these medias. And some of these medias actually affect politics. Some movies and tv series are very good at hiding its intent, which can easily fool the people who know little of its historical or political background. These type of medias can get away with it because they're not documentaries and never claimed to be factual.
one of the books i was reading said something really profound: "A memory is its own thing each time it is recalled. it is not absolute. Stories based on actual events often share more with fiction than fact. both fictions and memories are recalled and retold. they are both forms of stories. stories are how we learn. stories are how we understand each other. but reality happens only once" -Iain Reid i feel like unless there is actual, unaltered video evidence of an event taking place... it really is just a game of telephone, being distorted with each iteration until it becomes its own form of truth different from the original truth. but i agree; it is frustrating to hear/see one truth that is different from the one you've learned.
Not only that, but historical movies for instance are never really meant to be direct depictions of historical events, but always reflect modern times. Otherwise there would be no impetus for the filmmakers to make the movie or the audience to watch it. That said of course, there's a massive difference between a movie reflecting modern themes through a historical lens and propaganda being rammed down our throats thinly disguised as entertainment.
One recent example is The Crown. I was fascinated by the royal family's history when I watched it. I looked up Wikipedia and got disappointed to learn that it got criticized for its historical inaccuracies (although it was also commended for its depiction of other events). In this case, the series made its own narrative about the royal family and certain politicians.
Sure, AT&T, keep sending me ads for your super-fast fiber internet service which isn't available in my area.
‘Reality‘ shows in general, but especially those about berths and paramedics attending emergency calls. I’m sorry but I don’t know you. I couldn’t give a shit about your life-threatening injuries, your labour pains, whether you’re hoping for a boy or a girl, or what you’re going to call it.
