People who slam doors for no other reason than the fact they’re a dick. The guy who owns the office next door to me (an architect who just happens to be my landlord) slams the door to his office so hard my windows rattle. Just close it like a normal person!!!
fresh bread from the bakery.... spoils faster than i can eat it! whats the purpose of a bread box if it doesnt keep bread fresh?
Secret to fresh bread is to freeze whatever you don't plan on eating that day. There will be no degradation in quality. Portion it first if needed, like with longer loaves if you're only likely to eat a few pieces at a time. The corollary to "baked fresh daily" is "turns to poop tomorrow."
Gimme all the preservatives you've got. I want my bread pickled, smoked, salted, and dried. I want hardtack, dammit. Frackin' Japanese Wonderbread shokupan molds instantly when the bag has been opened and resealed at room temp, and turns all wet and weird if kept in the fridge.
Come on, Snail Boy, read the sign. It says: SPEED LIMIT 45 WHERE WORKERS PRESENT Try to pay attention.
All the football speak about England's chances today....one gets the feeling the English will not accept their teams limitations and trot out positive quotes about a mediocre team no matter what...
The English have never accepted limitations. Why start with a football team? Stiff upper lip, please.
I'm American with a British mother so I'm a big EPL/England fan and I don't see them ever winning anything under Southgate. His team selections are baffling at times.
what bothers is the worldwide ugliness that seems to pervade the conception of bookstore. Granted a few gems, most bookstores are clean, and orderly, and tidy . . . and I cannot wait to get out of there. sure, I enter to look at books not evaluate interior design, but for such a beautiful thing as books, there should be magical places called bookstores . . .
I give you a university library in Romania: Spoiler: The library of the Technical University Ghe Asachi Some of my favorites are the used bookstores where shelves are crowded close together and books are piled everywhere so the entire space becomes a labyrinth apparently made of books: Spoiler: used bookstore in St. Louis
i don't know where you're from, but bookstores are revered very highly here im in a book club on facebook and they constantly post about bookstores and their last big book haul, and how their significant other got them a gift card to their favorite bookstores, or going on dates to the bookstore. Bookstores are fun!
Instead, I mostly run away from bookstores. there are a few places where bookstores are great or at least have personality-nice, but mostly they look like hospitals to me--sterile.
Couple of annoyances today: Having to sit here and listen to other staffers complain/discuss where to put a book series written by an african american author with a black character. They want to put in in the African American section (even though we no longer have one and all the books there were integrated i to the rest of the collection). Its annoying because for 3YEARS we've gone over this... I've told them that there is no AA section. There is an Urban Fiction section. There are publishers that ONLY publish Urban Fiction and i gave them a list of those publishers that i order from specifically for the Urban Fiction collection.... Then a contemporary romance series comes across their desk and suddenly its "its African American, lets put it somewhere else and not in the general collection" UUUUUUUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! old habits are hard to break, i tell you...
In music stores in Japan (they still exist) there is usually a section entitled (in English): BLACK MUSIC. It's like someone put my grandmother in charge. She wasn't racist... for her time, but jazz=hip-hop=rap=R&B=soul equals... Black Music.
In the '40s and probably into the '50s in the US, all music by and for African-Americans was known as 'race music', so we've come a long way.
We took away labeling books differently (there used to be black tape on the spine to signify it was African American).... Even though we eliminated that, staff will write in sharpy on the inside cover "AA" Makes me mad...
