Reminds me of that little bit from The Birdcage.

"I am a short, fat, middle aged thing."

    "I made you short?"

    Sorry, can't accept that! :wtf:

In Sweden we write anything together, in English everything is written apart. Which usually mean I do the opposite! Nowadays, nowadays, nowadays. I'll try to remember that.

In my Swedish mind anymore doesn't make any sense in that context.

Not short enough to be confused with a little girl :supercry:

Nor does it in my 100% American mind, yet in certain areas of the U.S. (it's not a universal use) you'll hear constructions like "Things are so expensive anymore, I don't know how people make ends meet."

Or this poor dog, who was badly injured when its owner put a slice of ham on its face?

This sort of like and share farming is an out and out scam ... pages with lots of likes and shares are worth more in advertising revenue, and the content will later be changed, whether its cute puppies, pictures of disabled people, or whatever I never like or share anything that explicitly asks for likes and shares (this also goes for like and share to win this ludicrously high value prize offers)

I was thinking more that if you were short someone might say little mean diminutive in stature rather than young

    Little girl was translation.
Flicka in Swedish. It's a word meaning little/young girl.

When I was a teen, I was so proud of myself when I remembered the word sjuksköterska in a test. It looked so very long to me. :-D Not really sure why, to be honest, since compound words are almost always written together in Finnish as well, resulting in true monstrosities, but I guess when it's a foreign word and you don't know what it's a combination of, it just looks like a cat walked over your keyboard, instead of a real word.

So the story My Friend Flicka translates to My friend little girl? That's a bit weird.

Was Flicka a horse in that story?

To be honest I thought Finnish was just cats running all over the keyboard anyway ;)

Well, writing that word apart makes it more worrying. You don't want the nurse to be sick, right? I don't know if you're fluent in Swedish, but I had to write the word "kassamedarbetare" a few times today. Not good to write apart - especially when you're looking for a job.

I'm guessing that Flicka is the name of the horse. It seems to be a name in some places, but it probably originates from the word for girl.

Sorry if this strays too close to Debate Room territory, but I live in the county where Larry Nassar's latest sentencing happened, and this spectacle of 'witness impact statements' has dominated our local (and even national) news for far too long. Nassar is scum, and I'm sorry for the girls/women, but geez ...

    Snow.

It's gone from "spring is around the corner" to "winter wonderland" in less than a day and it shows no signs of stopping :(

Same here. We had a proper snow chaos on Thursday. I had to literally shovel my car out of a pile of heavy snow. It’s pretty nice now that the snow is more powdery and most of it’s been plowed off the streets but Thursday was effing insane. When I took the horse out, it pillared under her hooves so we couldn’t even go for a proper walk. :(

No, supermarkets should pay someone to collect the carts. Even if you lose a coin, a principle is at play. Please leave the trolley in the road/the gutter/a doorway - give that chap from the charity a job.

...the kind who discuss movies while watching them. You know in opposite of those nightmare people who just sits silently and has to focus on what they're watching.

Unless you're at the cinema. Then shutting up is absolutely the right thing to do.

You could connect with a friend on skype or something, and watch/discuss a movie together that way.
At least in theory it could work.

That implies having, you know, friends :wtf:

Anyway. In the end it means I'll sit through less bad movies! Less movies overall, but specifically bad ones.

I feel ya on the no friends part, and on the less movies watched part. I find myself
watching older television series that I have not seen before, since most of my life
I grew up without television and could only watch movies on VHS. Though I will
agree there are a lot of bad movies out these days (Hollywood has gotten lazy, and
most Indie Film Makers just don't have the technical skills to produce the formers
quality in terms of directing and acting ability).

You could always compromise and watch short films, they are quite popular now
a days and many are made quite well in how they are presented for the most part.
Maybe that niche of Indie Films will offer you some entertainment. :)

Without sounding like a complete hipster - I prefer interesting movies with a low budget over big movies since they are usually too polished which makes them boring.

I haven't really heard a lot about short films. Didn't know it was a trend. I'll google it and see what I can find!
