If it works anything like it does over here, anyone driving for a company pays their fuel bills with a special debit card type thing.
still way cheap by british standards - we're at £1.79 a litre... that comes out at $8.84 per US gallon
Of course, but we have the means and the oil in the land to produce mass volumes and drive that price way down. It's unrealized goods within our borders and increased utilization of goods outside our borders that's pissing people off. I'm paying now almost $5 a gallon at Costco (a discounted location) twice a week, which was a little over half that a year and a half ago. I don't imagine Britain is producing much oil, which drives up prices. That is awful though. I imagine we're right behind you, but for no good reason at all.
We got a fair bit in the north sea... the real difference is tax... british drivers pay 40% fuel tax and 17% Vat (like us sales tax i think)... over half the total cost of our petrol (gas) is taxation... on the plus side our cars are generally smaller engined and more fuel efficient... i get about 60mpg out of my van
True enough; I'm sure that the big companies have dedicated fuel payment systems to control costs. But many of these guys - and a few gals - are private contract haulers; they own their rig, so it all comes out of their personal pocket. My concern was for the potential of huge amounts of cash floating around.
Well in view of the rapidly rising fuel costs - the thing I recently bought or got is a sail-boat, which is massively exciting! I have done a fair bit of sailing on other people's boats, now I will have to learn which bit of string to pull and when... (if it was good enough for Einstein...)
Man, the world gas prices have not only caught up with but surpassed Japanese prices. Doesn't matter too much to me as I've only got a bicycle, but for most of the time I've been here prices have been about double that of the US.
Diesel prices could potentially double to £3.00 per Litre if production in Russia is shutdown and oil prices rise. Driver alert: Diesel prices to hit £3 a litre - cost nearly doubles as Russia is shut down | UK | News | Express.co.uk Note: My car has a 56 Litre tank - potentially £168.00 to fill the tank At this rate I'll soon be substituting my vehicle for a horse & cart!
Another new pair of shoes. I bought a pair off 'tinterweb, but they turned out to be too tight and nearly caused a blister (which is not good when you're diabetic!). As I discovered in the shoe shop, it's quite difficult to get a shoe on my prosthetic foot while I'm actually wearing it. I didn't want to take my leg off in public though, in case it frightened someone.
On a related note, Japan Post have suspended air services to Europe. I can only use Fedex/DHL to get my stuff shipped over.
Yeah, JAL and ANA announced that they weren't flying to Europe anymore the short way 'round. I think JAL might have one or two flights going via Canada, but that's a nightmare of travel time. 11-12 hours from Tokyo to Chicago that I know from personal experience, plus however long it takes from there to Europe (5-6 hours to England IIRC, but that was a long time ago so I'm not sure).
although that’s the express who are notorious for posting alarmist rubbish. when everyone else is saying it might snow the express will be predicting a new ice age motoring groups were saying today that the global oil price was stabilising and fuel prices should start coming back down in a week or two
LoL. I didn't realise it was a competition... It's only a little one, not even as big as Einstein's (c:
thank you - I think I shall enjoy the learning as much as anything... It would be nice to learn enough to teach the grandson; he's nearly two and walking like a pro, so I'd better get my finger out (c:
Just try to avoid collisions with cargo ships and ocean liners. They will turn your boat into matchwood. Also, I think I'd stay out of the Black Sea for the time being.
ands if you attempt to enter Axmouth (where i'm the harbour master) make sure you call ahead for directions on where the sandbar is, and be aware that we say that there are two types of sailors at the yacht club..those that have hit the wall, and those that are going to
