You can't just post thank and then not tell us which book it is, sharing is caring! (Seriously please post the title, sounds like I need it!)
After much searching I finally found a small (370ml) flask made by Thermos, with the trademark ‘half- unscrew to pour‘ inner lid, so that’s the Thing I Recently Bought.
Things i recently got: The COVID vax. Working with the public we had multiple staff workers out with Covid or Covid symptoms yet we werent on the county list as "high needs". One of the managers pushed for it and got the county to vaccinate all of us! (My arms itchy....)
I just checked the rollout info and damn the J-government is slow. PM Suga (who is 72) just got his first shot. As a middle-aged resident, I should get mine in... July. In-person lessons start at the beginning of April.
Just bought three books in one, a rarity for me since I'm extremely picky and it takes me ages to find books. On a roll with the darkly surreal and Weird fiction. Last Days, Brian Evenson The Other Side, Alfred Kubin Occultation and Other Stories, Laird Barron The problem with niche books is that they're expensive even used.
Nope, anyone with a legal residence here (that is, anyone other than tourists) is treated equally based on age, conditions that put them at risk, etc. I've got permanent residency, so for pretty much anything except voting I'm a citizen. There has been some talk recently of changing the law to allow us to vote in local (but not national) elections as well.
Just got the(free) update to Scrivener, and, while the transition went smoothly and it doesn't seem much different, it certainly gave me an excuse to mess around, like posting here, instead of writing on any of my projects.
Been looking for a little credit card wallet that would hold one of those mini Moleskine Volant notebooks I posted a pic of a few posts ago, but couldn’t find one, so I made my own. For once, I’m very happy with the neatness of my saddle stitch.
Got an ASUS Rog Strix X570-E motherboard and a Corsair 780T that will likely be without purpose for many months. It's been awhile...
just ordered a blend of tea thats supposed to taste like a sugar cookie. Also ordered some black tea that mixed with espresso beans. needless to say, i've perched myself by the window, watching the street for the UPS truck like a forlorn sea-side wife awaiting the return of her long lost husband
Need to build yourself a "widow's walk" atop your house for that. Those are all over the place around the coast here (albeit for about $1.5 million a house, though).
i like how the chair is tied down.... as if i'd somehow, in my melancholy, rock myself off the roof to my death
Didn't notice that... probably there to keep the chair from blowing off the roof. Or busting the shit out of the railing.
I have something very similar on the roof of my house: 100_1222 by Darkmatters, on Flickr It's a flat area with a low railing. Looks to me like where a guy would stand with a shotgun guarding the house against attack. Plus I used to have the vicious guard dog Pepper. Her spirit still protects me. I've thought of putting a chair up there and getting a good drunk on one night, but somehow it doesn't seem like the best idea. And I just now decided to call it the second story porch. Yeah, I like it.
Lol yeah, and the railing is only on the front, there's none on the side. Kinda like that fancy Spanish-looking facade is only on the front wall of the house. Aside from that it's a standard yellow brick house. But hey, add a few feet of useless masonry on top and it looks like something out of a spaghetti western.
Lol! Yeah, see? If there had been a sniper's nest atop the roof, you wouldn't need a widow's walk. Or did the husband die in the sniper's nest, defending his poor future widow?
I have to lean a ladder against the wall. I guess I could pull it up behind me after I get up there. And I should add, you can't take shelter behind the masonry, there's a peaked roof right behind it. And the railing is only about knee high. Really not a cool spot to hang out at all.
