A tent. Two-person, 3-season Mountain Wear Mineral Point. Easy set-up with footprint and rainfly. Not the most deluxe, but not a cheapie either--- from REI. Kind of a bucket list thing, camping options are kind of limited for me right now, because of personal commitments. But I figured if I buy it that's the first step. I used to love being outdoors. And never had a lightweight modern one.

Solo camping? Wild or site? I’d have thought a one-man would have been more suitable if the former.

ETA: I see now Mineral Point is a place. Looks cold.

I thought about the one-man, but I don't mind having a bit of extra room for stuff if I'm solo, and I may actually find someone to go with -- not my better half, who thinks there's a reason for resorts. Not really backpacking, but there are some nice parks and such around here. I used to camp a bit, even did some backpacking/trekking in the Rockies.

BTW: it's actually called a "Mineral King," Mineral Point is indeed a place, not far from here, hence my typo.

BTW2: the tent does look nice in my basement, next step, the backyard, where I can actually drive stakes into the ground and set up the rain fly. But not today, because it's raining.

    The irony of this. :D
Though it would be a good way to test
that the rain fly doesn't leak.

I'm actually thinking of cashing the check and taking it straight to Empire Guitars on North Main Street before I think twice about it. Which I just did... the thinking twice part. But I shouldn't because I worked my ass off for that shit. Probably took 10 years off my life to earn it.

Yeah. Pretty sure I'm up to 30. Work took 10, wife took 10, partying took 10. I turn 43 next month. Round it to 75 and call it a day.

The real irony is that on my Rocky Mountains backpacking trip I took a tent I'd never tested before, and it leaked like hell when we got caught in a major rainstorm near the top of Longs Peak. Made for a very long night and a memorable story.

So yes, I will seriously test it, and I was sort of going for irony there. But I see no need to go out in the backyard in the rain to set it up; I'll do it another day, before the rain starts.

I live in dry country. Have set up more than one tent to be tested with the hose before setting out on a trip.

And that's exactly what I did! Paul Reed Smith Artist Custom 594. Mother of pearl dove inlays, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard (which is illegal to sell in the EU, apparently), , mahogany neck-thru, chrome saddle, bridge and tuning keys, pull/pot humbucker to single-coil pickups, which gives it 12 different tonal configurations--anything from a strat to a telly to an SG to a hollow body. And it plays like fucking butter. Never felt anything like it. PRS wasn't even on my radar, but the dude at the shop told me to try it and, well, I wouldn't but it down.

I'm over the moon... need to take more lessons to play it the way it was designed.

Now we really need to get that forum get-together going. I see you have the music. I'd love to hear that guitar sing. I got the outdoor area, firepit, pool table, and pool. Somebody needs to cater.

Holy shit! Didn't even notice that. Far out, man!

My other guitars are like a jilted ex-wives club now. They're like, wow, we supported you for decades, but as soon as a custom PRS flashes its tits at you...

Oh, hell, yeah. No pool here but I got a restaurant to cater and can probably swing a trade with a hotel manager or two.

That is a hot guitar. :)
    Kinda curio about the electronics,
    considering what's stock for PRS,
    is an upgrade for most.
Gotta cool bonus in the deal with
    the push/pull pots. Kudos. :)

Maybe this should go in the gaming thread but what the hell. I bought a table tennis game for my VR. It feels very authentic.

Serious question, are they responsive enough and sensitive enough to spin and speed to make it realistic?

They are to a degree. You can apply spin, of any type, but it’s harder to make it take effect in VR, because it lacks the feel of contact between bat and ball. Also, because the hand controllers are not shaped like a bat, you’re not always fully confident about the angle of the bat’s face.

All that said, it’s as close as you’re going to get to the real thing, and given the room space and confidence to swing the bat without fearing you’ll crack your hand and controller into a wall, you get a seriously good workout.

Does it have seeds? The ones without usually don't taste right. I'm willing to spit out seeds in order to get that perfect watermelon flavor and texture I remember from when I was younger.
