I'm sure the admins are aware, but just thought I'd recount my difficulties. We already lost a number of people as a result of the problems over the last number of weeks. I'm going to hang in there, but it is rather frustrating. Even when the site works, it is so slow that I'm having flashbacks to 1994 and really bad dialup. The site very often simply stops in the middle of loading and I see nothing but a blank browser tab. Other times, I get various out of memory errors when trying to load a thread. I don't know if there is any way at all to go back to the old site, or what all of the potential downsides are for using the older technology, but at this point I'm really in favor of it. Hope the glitches are worked out soon.
me, too! it's still taking the patience of job and umpteen tries to get into a section or a thread and i don't know how much longer i can justify so much wasted time and energy, plus risking my life with the upping of my bp the frustration causes... i've loved this site since we broke off from 'the site which shall not be named' and really hate to see it go downhill and out of sight this way... so PLEASE either solve these major probs that are costing us new [and maybe some old] members, or get us back to the old system asap... love and despairing hugs, maia
The only problem I'm still encountering is that when I log in I get an error message reading "Invalid Redirect URL (http://writingforums.org/)". But then, if I click on the site logo, it takes me to the homepage, logged in fine.
happily, it's working pretty well now... only have the occasional 'can't find' message and i finally figured out that i could cure the reply box cursor 'slide' by pulling it open more with the little sizer down in the right bottom corner that i'd never noticed... thanks, daniel! love and lotsa hugs, maia
I'm missing threads - there was a thread on favourite villain or hero that I posted in just yesterday, and it's suddenly gone...
It's been fine so far, except for the occasionally embarrassing 56k-era speeds, but today I'm having a lot of trouble posting. I've tried to post a critique several times but it goes onto a neverending blank page! Haven't been able to successfully post anything over a few short sentences today.
That's good for you but completely irrelevant to anyone who is having issues. I've been unable to post anything more than a few sentences today. Spent twenty minutes trying to post a critique which I spent a large amount of time on. Final resolution was I got half of it posted! I tried a combination of breaking it into smaller parts, even sending it a combination of private messages and forum posts, but it's just not happening. Finding this quite irritating, if I'm honest.
I think the point he was trying to make is that it may not be the site that is acting up. It could be something on your end. The site just got upgraded and has been working like a champ for a few days now.
Ha yeah you got me guys. I was ratty because I invested a large amount of time critiquing someones work and was then not able to share it with them. I won't make that mistake again...
Understandable. I've had this happen on some sites and ended up doing the critique in notepad and cutting and pasting, so when the site screwed up I still had it (or do a quick highlight and copy before hitting the submit button). Still, it is a pain to have to do it that way.
I have a habit of copying almost everything I type on the internet before I hit "submit" or "reply." I have been scorned by the intertube gods one to many times for my liking. So I agree; this is a good thing to do.
I managed to get the second half to them, but the first half disappeared into evil internet limbo! I'm sure it'll find its way back home, but not in our lifetimes! I think I'll do that from now on. Also, I won't overuse the quote feature, my post was pretty bulky which I'm sure didn't help.
Children, behave... Your thread was deleted, as it wasn't writing related. Well, the site was running fine for me, and since nobody else was having similar problems, I'd have to say that it's likely the problem was on your end- whether with your laptop or your connection.
Hmmm. Sorry Lemex, I must have missed that. Is anyone else suffering anything similar? Details would be helpful.
Well, it wasn't my thread [I merely replied to it], but it would be nice if the decision to delete that thread had been taken sooner, so I wouldn't have spend the time and energy to reply to a thread that was doomed from the start.
