I have been writing scenes, and things I want to happen in the story. I have a full notebook of ideas, A few characters done, nothing for them to do yet. I just haven’t actually written in story format. I have accomplished a lot since I posted this thread.
I'm writing an ending scene to my 84,000 word ms. Is it the real one? I don't know yet. That's the cool thing about writing something out of thin air. You can make people do anything you want.
Not that I have a lot of experience on this, I usually think a week/month about the first chapter/beginning of a book/concept. First: I try to visualize the people. usually through my daily life or on the internet. Then I try to think of the personality and go from there with my future chapters. Then I try to visualize the environment with, of course, the internet. But how far can i think this trough? Well, its pretty limited. I think it only works for about 3 chapters, after that, I just have to start writing and think again about the following chapters. But this is only my construction of trying to make a book/ concept
I'm with you on this one. Imaginary friends are not the same as characters and dreams aren't the same as stories. For me, writing is more about the finished product than the process. It seems like a lot of people get caught up on some sort of process that think a writer needs to take to reach a story. But I don't think it's any more work to write the story than gather ideas that might or might not be helpful. And you guys do know there is a delete button, right? We're not marrying the words we put down, but if they're not a story or something like that, they just don't seem all that useful to me. I agree with @Lifeline. Let the dreaming pass. The real dream is to be a writer, and without writing you're not likely to catch that dream.
It is for me, by a significant margin. Especially the prose reworking and polishing part of my writing process. That's when writing feels closer to puzzle solving—almost mathematical—as opposed to something creative.
I like that. Like solving a puzzle. Or like fixing an equation, conducting a long study. I’m still gathering scenes, things that must happen, a few unique ideas, still not a firm plot. I think that’s ok though.
I like to try to note all the ideas, story lines, what ifs..... organization is not always my best character. Sometimes I get a story and hit a point where I just don't like how it's panning out, the direction it is taking. That's another area I need to work out, it's easy to let it sit and never resolve.
