Hello writer friends, first off I apologize if this isn't the appropriate thread for this and if I need to I will make the correction immediately. I've written a short story that I'd love to potentially sell to a magazine or at least potentially get paid for, but my concern is that the story itself is too dark for a publisher to consider taking on. For context, the story describes the inner narrations and actions of a sociopath who also works in a sex doll factory. I'd love to hear some strategies from authors facing this and some advice on the smartest way of going about it. For anyone interested in reading the piece, feel free to ask. Cheers everyone
It's up to you to understand your market. I doubt it's too dark to sell, but the market for such a thing is likely tiny.
Thank you for the feedback, I was mostly curious if any horror writers knew potential publishers who accept the particularly darker side of stories.
Nothing is too dark to sell. That's why you have shows like Dexter and Hannibal. There's a specific audience for that kind of stories. I'm in that audience. Why don't you search for publishers who have published dark stuff in the past? The latest book I've read in this "genre" was "Exquisite Corpse" by Popppy Z. Brite. Look it up.
