    Tropical island fruits

Discussion in 'Research' started by Randomthought31, Feb 4, 2008.

Is it possible to find watermelon growing on a tropical island?

If not, what is a good fruit/vegetable that you'd find growing on a beach?

Ok, Pineapples and papayas sound good. I already knew about coconuts and bananas. Thanks for the help. Are they all grown on pretty much the same type of tree?

I am not sure about what type of tree but going on what Sims Castaway had, you get coconuts, bananas, millions of berries, papayas, watermelons, starfruit, mangos, melons, that sort of thing. :)

i live on a tropical island... watermelons are grown commercially, but are not 'natural' to the island... the native fruits here are bananas, mangoes, coconuts, an odd kind of green grapefruit and green tangerines... there are also native hot peppers that everyone picks in the jungle, along with betel nuts...

Thank you very much for that. I'll go ahead and go with berries, bananas, pineapples, and coconuts.

I think it depends on where this island is but I like lychee, passion fruit, and those giant spiky fruit that fall out of trees and kill people...I think they're called "pillow fruit"?

Pineapples dont grow on a tree, they grow on the ground, out of a sort of bush of pineapple leaves.

Where abouts is this island? If its the caribbean a lot of the fruit there is non-native, and was brought there from the pacific islands by colonialists. I think breadfruit was brought over to feed the slaves on. If your story is set pre colonial times, it might have different fruit to if it was set today.

Also, you might want to specify 'berries' a bit more. The species will depend on the location.
