Castiel seems like an interesting character. What season does he first appear in? Would it be bad if I started to watch from that season L)

Agreed about Milla Jovovich (I'm not a fan of her "acting", either), but completely disagree about Luc Besson. The guy did

The Fifth Element (excellent, all-time film)

    Wasabi (AMAZING action comedy)

Leon: The Professional (All-time great action film)

The Transporter 2 (Criminally underrated, great action film that blows the original out of the water)

District B13 (Extremely innovative, exciting parkour action film)

And that's just from what I have seen. Two of those are all-time great films by almost anyone's rankings, and at least two more deserve that honor.

Obviously, I don't mean he directly copied those films. Only that Besson probably took inspiration from those movies with the character of Nikita and overarching story. (Based on the plot description and clips I have seen) In fact, I get a real HK kung fu/chanbarra vibe from some of his pictures, which is a good thing.

Crap, I forgot this was Besson's! I love Léon and Jean Reno in it (am I abusing the verb 'love', I feel like I use it too much). I take my words back, partially. I won't forgive Jeanne d'Arc that easily though.

On a sidenote, I don't give a crap about anyone's rankings. If I don't personally hold some director's works in high regard, I don't. Different things entertain different people and all that.

jannert : I do recommend you give another go to La Femme Nikita. It's a charming show, though it does take a while to really get into it. Do skip the opening sequence; it's terrible, imo :D

I agree. The movies I listed are all ones I hold in especially high regard, though. And Besson has an extensive filmography. I doubt most people have seen Wasabi, for instance, which is arguably his best work.

I beg to differ! That catchy tune is still stuck in my head a good 12 years later!

Not the tune, the imagery. It's so... '90s... and cheesy. I can't watch it.

I'm probably in the minority, but I think La Femme Nikita, the show, is superior to the original film. Sure, Besson did a good job and it's his baby, but I just like Peta Wilson so much better as Nikita, and the guy who played Michael in the show eventually grew on me even though initially I hated him. The thing about Wilson is that she's one of the very few actresses who actually has a physique that makes it credible that she's a kickass assassin (or whatever her job title is): she's tall, she has a muscular upper body, and her general demeanor just oozes toughness without being over-the-top or corny. Sure, some of the action scenes are unrealistic, but since it's one of the few faults of the show, I can overlook the occasional slips.

And there's no comparison between Wilson and the 2010 version of Nikita:
    Badass
    Stick-Insect

T.Trian: Yeah, I agree. She's believable in her role as a bad-ass secret agent 'cause even her size is imposing. I like it when they dare cast actresses who don't look starved (granted, to some even Wilson may look starved. Not to me though). Of course, most people and fans don't really care. Movie magic and all.

Wasn't Wilson taller than the guy who played Michael?

ETA: I checked, and Wilson is 5'10/178cm while Dupuis is 5'11/180cm. Close.

I have! Years ago and I can't remember much of it, except that I liked it and it had Jean Reno and an Asian girl in it. And Reno ate wasabi. I should watch it again.

His first appearance is in "Lazarus Rising," the 1st episode of the 4th season, so you'd miss quite a bit of actiony goodness and great humor if you skipped that much, but I bet you'd still be able to get into it, especially since every season's 1st episode (except the 1st season's) starts with a quick recap. You might just end up getting into the show after watching the 4th season and then start from the beginning.

I finished watching the first series of Fawlty Towers, specifically the episode The Germans.

Holy fuck, the final part, when Fawlty stumbles out of the hospital back to the hotel, might have been the funniest seven minutes of anything I have ever seen in my life. I really liked the first five episodes, but this took the humor to a whole new level. One of the most brilliant episodes in television history.

Fawlty Towers is brilliant, and alongside Blackadder and Jeeves & Wooster one of my favorites of British comedy (when Monty Python is excluded since there's no limit to how many times I can watch Life of Brian and Holy Grail).

Of the newer productions, I can't get tired of The League of Gentlemen. Yeah, not everyone's cup of five o'clock tea, but it does hit my funny nerve. My husband actually said to me in a Papa Lazarou voice "You're my wife now" right after we got married :D

That and Keeping Up Appearances are my two favorite television comedies ever. The Benny Hill Show is probably third, although Fawlty Towers is rising up the ranks.

    He didn't call you Dave?

Okay I started watching Firefly again and I like it a lot more this time.

I stopped at the end of the 2nd season so I guess I'll just start watching from the 3rd then

The third is shorter than the rest because it was the writers' strike that year. Don't skip to S4, whatever you do - S4 (and definitely S5) is a big payoff season that builds on everything that's happened the first three seasons, and the emotional impact and the wrapping up of plotlines either won't make sense or won't have their intended impact if you skip the other seasons.

S4 and S5 are by far my favorites.

I recently finished Fawlty Towers. A truly hilarious, all-time great series. While I rate it slightly below Keeping Up Appearances and Black Adder among my absolute favorite Britcoms, it was fantastic. The episodes were consistently outstanding, probably because they ended it after only 12 installments.

Okay I just watched 5 episodes of Dollhouse one after the other. Don't know what's so bad about this show but it has one of the best stories I've seen in a while. Eliza's acting isn't so bad, even pretty good in some scenes. A bit rigged here and there but I'm pretty sure she would have grown into the adaptive role if she got to a second and third season. Can't wait to watch the rest of it.

I, on the other hand, have to agree with those who think Dollhouse is awful. A friend recommended it, she was like "yeah, it's not so bad, just check it out", but T and I got through maybe 4 episodes and that was it. Actually the BSG guy's, Helo's (can't be arsed to check his name, but it was an unusual one) acting was the worst, I mean, poor actor, he was cornered, written into a ridiculous, non-credible role so I guess it can't be held against him. Eliza Dushku is just boring. I guess the worst of it was its general boringness, uninspired dialogue, and non-memorable characters. We watched it after Angel and right after that, we watched Firefly, so when Dolllhouse is stacked in between, it'll probably come off even worse.

I had to look up his name because to be honest I don't remember any character names except Echo's :/ . You're talking about that FBI cop, Paul right? While he might just be strung along for the plot, I think that his character has a lot of potential. Not just because he's an FBI cop, but because he's an outside observer who is conflict of whether Dollhouse is real or not. Along with Echo's perspective, the audience has an inside and outside perspective of Dollhouse which makes the reality of the world more immersive and believable (for some). His beliefs do get semi-confirmation in the 5th episode so it's not like the writers waited for the season finale to use him as a plot device.

All that aside, the character himself could have been written better, and I'm beginning to think Amy Acker would have made a better Echo than Dushku. I guess we can only hope Joss will take what's best from his past shows and put them into Agents of SHIELD so it lasts longer than one season. Only 13 more days until it airs. I'm pretty excited.

The Killing on Netflix; the best shot TV show I've ever seen. It was too professional/deep for most viewers, which is why they cancelled it after the second season. Also, Heroes. That show was awesome. How sad it is when brilliant shows get cancelled.

You need to stop watching Angel and watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That is the best TV show of all time, no matter how much you hate vampires. The characters are perfect, the stories are perfect (until the last two seasons, anyway). I sound demanding because I'm letting a little fangirl come out, so please excuse that. :3

BTVS and TK are amazing. Please, everyone, go watch them now!

Helo from Battlestar Galactica, I just couldn't remember his character's name in Dollhouse so I call him Helo x) but yeah, I meant Paul. I've tried to look at Dollhouse positively, like, there must be something good about it, but to me it was just silly, quite boring, and full of mediocre acting and uninteresting characters.

Yeah, I've seen the whole series only about 4 times. I should definitely watch it again :D

No worries. Although if you're ever bored one hour, I'd suggest watching the finale of season 1 (Epitaph One) which actually stars a different group of characters and yet provides an emotional and conclusive end to the show had it ended there. It pretty much stands on its own.

Just finished re-watching the brilliant Gimme Gimme Gimme. I'm determined to learn to imitate Tom's intonation when he says "what a bitch."

Now T and I are rewatching Coupling, which is bone-crackin' funny especially when Jeff opens his mouth :D
