My new favorite science show: Star Talk, hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson I've seen a couple of these now and they are fantastic!
Steven Universe continuously blows me away. It's definitely a kids' show, and it's not really meant for people who aren't willing to see stuff that's cute and silly, but it can address so many emotional nuances without going above its target audience's head. It can cover more content in 15 minutes than most shows handle in an hour. I recommend starting at the beginning without a lot of outside information, since the main character also starts with very limited knowledge of the larger world and the history behind his companions. A lot of it's fun and playful, especially at the beginning, but I'll give a little teaser of some of the more serious stuff you're in for:
Steven Universe is great, although Steven sometimes annoys me a bit 'cause I think he's not as mentally developed as a kid his age probably should be. I just finished watching all the Wakfu animations (two seasons + 3 extra episodes). I usually reeeeally dislike anime, but I guess when the French do it in collaboration with the Japanese... Insta-love! Plus, it doesn't hurt to brush up on my French either, so I pretty much devoured all the episodes.
@KaTrian Why would you assume the Japanese have anything to do with a French developer from a French company? Wakfu is entirely a French production and owned by Ankama. And the art isn't anime style either. It's similar but the differences are there.
Yeah, the production is for the most part French, but at least Wikipedia says two episodes were made in Japan... And the similarities are pretty obvious... So I don't find saying the Japanese and their animation tradition has had a lot to do with their art style -- and games -- all that farfetched.
Can't bring myself to watch it. The comic series is classic and very very well written. With tons of references and influences drawn from classic literature such as Paradise Lost and mythologies from all around the world. Heck at one point in it Lucifer copies God's creation in Genesis in his own universe. He even makes his own version of Adam and Eve but he makes it clear that death is total non existence to them and they are to worship no one (not even him). But he also tricks an angel into basically being his snake in the garden. Just to test to see how faulty the people he made were. And just all sorts of these weird, interesting and surreal twists in the story. All that I described just happens at the start. He does in the comics however manage a night club called Lux but the show just seems to have made it a standard buddy cop kinda show based on the trailer.
OMG, it's great! It just ended. When I posted earlier it was only halfway through. Now that I've seen a whole episode, I absolutely love it! It's farcical, you have to take it with a grain of salt.
But it can be sooooooooooooo hard though when they adapt the things you love into something totally different. That's always hard to watch, I mean I'm sure we've all gone through it with something.
But look at the premise with a writer's POV. Satan (he calls himself that but he's apparently Satan's son) might just have a conscience, or at least there is a hint of a conscience. It's a great story premise.
The comic does have a great premise. That's what makes it so good is the exploration of Lucifer's character and his relationship with heaven also a heavy focus on the theme of freewill. One thing the show did keep was the Lux it seems though. In the book he does run the club at the start. Though he's not the son of Satan. He's God's (Yaweh) son and the actual devil (not his son) in the books, where as Satan is a different entity entirely (story for another time ). I've no true beef with the show itself and while I'll always prefer the source material in general as it ranks in my some of my favorite written works (from my comic library at least). I don't MIND adaptations taking liberties from the source material but I do wish once it goes so far off from it, that they'd of just made it a different beast entirely. I can't really say much more. I know I perhaps sound to harsh and I probably will check it out but the original has given me so much inspiration in my own writing and creativity was kinda looking forward to them doing it more faithful. They are just very complex books and ones that tackle some really intense subjects which I highly suggest reading to anyone. And like I said they were a big influence on me as a writer. So of course I'm a bit like "ehhhhhhhh" at the show on first glance.
I finished the first season of "The Man in the High Castle" not too long ago about a hypothetical USA that lost World War II and is subsequently divided between Germany and Japan. The show had plot and characterization problems but kept me watching. I really want to check out the sci-fi book it's based upon.
So The Magicians is up against Lucifer. The Magicians was same ol' shit tonight. I think it's because just making up whatever nonsense you want and calling it a plot gets old fast. While Lucifer explores various elements of human nature. There's more to the plot than just, let's make weird stuff and people will like it.
So I've gotten on this huge kick watching highlights from the "Graham Norton Show." Why have you Brits been keeping this guy secret? I love it!
For the love of All that is good and worthy, please say the Fuller house is not a real thing. and to make the salt of bad taste sting even more, it it going to be a thing (that's all I can call it without vomiting) on Feb 26th. The same day that 22 years ago the Bill Hicks died on. Go back to bed America, your government is once again in control.
If watching a sitcom is like spraying paint over your third eye then "Fuller House" is like a paint gun filled with salt, vinegar, lemons and those spiked spears in phantasm shot repeatedly in the all three eyes while twisting a wine cork in the side of the head while being read 50 shade of grey but a monotone computer voice.
My favourite show would probably be Jessica Jones or maybe The Last Kingdom. Also the Walking With series, I used to be obssessed with them, though I lost interest in Paleontology as an actual career because of my interest in stories, leading me to history and writing. He's on Australian television all the time on ABC. So it's not just Britain. And he's on American tv somewhere, maybe try Netflix?
