Been watching The Bureau of Magical Things with my daughter... it's a tween show but its not too bad and she likes to spend time watching it with me
Started season 9 of Archer, that's the "Danger Island" season if like me you have no memory of TV season numbers. "Dreamland" was pretty disappointing, I think because I was so used to the whole ensemble being together and playing off each others' zaniness, and then they had to spend the first 50-70% of that season working through separate storylines to get back in the same place.
Been watching The Expanse and The 100. I love The Expanse, it's a great show, have not seen the latest season though. The 100 is pretty neat as well, the journey humanity and all characters make throughout the show is pretty impressive and has inspired me. But nothing will ever beat Babylon 5.
Three seasons into binge-watching Star Trek TNG, one thing I've learned is that they couldn't leave Commander Riker alone with any female, human or not. Number One dog.
Lord of the Rings (Amazon series). What are we all expecting from this? Call me cynical but I’m not expecting much. I fully expect them to try and cash-in on the success of GoT and give us yet another fantasy soap opera full of beautiful but ‘strong’ women and hot-headed alpha-males.
Finished watching all seven seasons of Star Trek TNG, and I can state, without fear of contradiction, that ship's Counselor Deanna Troi's right breast is noticeably larger than the left. No apparent list to starboard, so she carries it well.
I've been watching that show Curon, which is kinda cool, but I'm not really the target audience for it. It's a teen drama meets supernatural horror, I guess. A small town with dark secrets, that type of stuff. Feels fairly generic. Not good enough to binge, but I do an episode or two a day for language learning reasons, and I don't hate my time with it. I can't speak to the English dub or subs, as I'm watching it in pure Italian, but the dialogue, plot, and acting is pretty okay; some of the detail and nuances pass me by, and I can't say if that helps or hinders my enjoyment of the show. Worth checking out if you're into mildly spooky stuff with a generous dose of relationship drama. I'm also on my third attempt to finish Vikings, and this time I've made it all the way to season 3. On paper I should love this show, and I do like it, it's good, it just has this way of making me not care after a while.
David Schwimmer is the worst successful actor in Hollywood. David Schwimmer could fuck up a circus. David Schwimmer almost ruined Band of Brothers.
I don’t mind him, but aside from Friends and the aforementioned BoB I’ve not seen him in anything. BoB is a phenomenally good TV series. Every episode is nigh on perfect in every respect.
It was a little over the top, writing wise. He's got one of those whiny faces that made him perfect, but the character was a bit of a caricature. There was nothing redeemable about him from that opening scene, like he was inserted just to be an over the top douche for... reasons? I get that that was the sole intention of his character, but I wish there was a smidgen of attention paid to why he was the way he was, that he thought he was doing good in his mind, and that he wasn't placed upon the Earth to be the biggest asshole who ever existed. Blame it on David Schwimmer's resting douche face, I guess.
I see I'm not the only one with Schwimmer Fatigue. So I dipped my toe in Neapolitan crime series Gomorrah, and after five episodes I'm hooked but good. I mean, holy shit. So far this is on a level with The Sopranos and The Wire. Very raw, immersive as hell. The character of Don Pietro steals every scene; intimidating, fiercly dislikable, but charismatic. Excellent job by that actor.
This quote is stolen (with permission) from a friend: "Mr. Mercedeus ex machina." Twenty hours wasted.
I'm currently watching an Australian program called Wentworth. It's about a prison for women. I like it so far.
Watching Season 2 of American Horror Story. The 1950s mental hospital one. This is only the third season I've watched (thanks Netflix and your impenetrable season listing system) but it seems to me that someone went to TV Tropes: Horror and clicked select all. Spoiler We have: 1) a sadistic nun after Nurse Ratched 2) aliens 3) an escaped Nazi war criminal (with never even a hint of a German accent) 4) mutant monsters created by (3) 5) a psychiatrist who is also a serial killer 6) some copycat spree killers 7) the continuation of the serial killer long past his lifespan (not done yet, dunno how that resolves) 8) a random misogynist whackjob who kills himself and tries to kill the heroine, whom he only knew for about two and a half minutes 9) demonic possession And 10) the actual Angel of Death (although Frances Conroy can shoehorn herself into any production in any role she wants. A cameo as Spongebob in a FastxFurious movie? Fine. A kung-fu ninja pizza chef in Macbeth? I'll watch and cheer all the way. The woman is a goddamn national treasure (I'd even watch another sequel to that if she was in it, ferfucksake.))
Yeah, you definitely get the vibe that all that was intentional. The show is NOT subtle. Ever. Like to a degree that would otherwise seem impossible. Entertaining as hell, though. Totally okay to turn off your brain.
The new season of Rick and Morty. I've heard mixed reviews of this season but the first episode is pretty solid. Now every time someone goofs up something trivial IRL I have to fight the urge to shout "YOU TOUCHED THE OCEAN, MORTY".
