You are essentially proposing success guilt though. You're presenting rich people as being in a shameful position and that they have distaste for earning more.
Secondly, sportsman are about more than "kicking a ball". I'll admit, I do think they can get a bit too rich for their job. But there's a degree of personality and media management involved in being a truly successful sportsman, like Arnold Schwarzenegger who manages much of his own brand.

I see, sorry I misunderstood. I thought you meant I feel this way because I feel guilty.

We’re way off-topic here, but I do just want to respond to this. You’re right in what you say about my attitude to this. We have created a culture in which athletes, models, manufactured pop stars and socialites are more highly valued than healthcare professionals and teachers. I think we should all feel ashamed of that.

Sorry to hear about your mishaps. I have had pain that was caused by the nerve in the tooth. I was screaming it was so bad.
I have had many other pains that hurt a lot but never as bad as that tooth.

Although some problem with my back was a very close second.
I think that was because the muscle was pushing on a nerve with the back pain.

To get the thread a bit more on track, did you all know that there's a cup of Starbucks coffee in literally every scene in the movie Fight Club somewhere in the shot?

    ???

So we should kill the free market and go pure communist to avoid a non problem?

Even if we valued things the way you wish they were , would we really be better off?
Communism has always failed to do anything but make more people miserable.
Perfection is not possible. The free market is the least worst alternative, and the others suck big time.

I'd be happy to direct you to the debate room if you'd like to continue this discussion. Please keep it out of these threads.

I didn't say that. I don't know what the answer is. I'm just saying that I find it immoral that educators and healthcare workers struggle to get by while entertainers live like kings.

People resorting to food banks is not a non-problem.
People living in poverty is not a non-problem.
People leaving caring professions in droves because they can't afford to live on the salary is not a non-problem.
The declining mental health of people in caring professions is not a non-problem.
Children leaving school without proper qualifications because they think they can aspire to be a celebrity is not a non-problem.

Like I said, I don't have the answers. And I'm not saying communism is the way forward. I never mentioned communism. But I think a good start to improving Western civilisation would be to start prioritising the needs of people who give a shit about other people. That's how societies work properly - by reinforcing social behaviour. Not by forcing the free market down everybody's throats at every opportunity. That might grease the wheels of the economy, but it also seems to make most people fucking miserable.

Should your morality be imposed on the world?
Teachers are grossly overpaid due to their unions and the liberals hyping how important they are to help them brainwash people with their politics instead of teaching STEM.

Perfection is not possible. We can't do everything for everybody. The free market is the best way to allocate scarce goods and resources.

If you want to prioritise things then go to church and work with the religion of your choice. Get government out of the way. Private/Church charity can provide 8x the help per available dollar to the needy than the government does.

This was my fault, I should have been more aware of the fact that I was posting something that belonged in the Debate Room. However, for anyone who wants to continue in the topic, I've taken a moment to create The Income Inequality / Wealth Gap Thread over there.

Apologies again for dropping a lit match.

See, the thing is the market economy isn't about value. It's about availability and costs. Things that are rarer to have the right fit for and make a lot of money for their associates get high pay. Jobs that are a bit more common and less lucrative don't, even if they're very important to society. It's not really that fair but it's a result of natural factors in industry and has it's upsides at times. It also means there are ways for the less paid positions to make a lot of money if they apply those principles to their own work. Also, this is why jobs like healthcare and education that are very necessary but not very profitable are associated with government interjections and often government paid; to ensure that they don't go under-appreciated. This isn't the kind of thing you can blame rich people for, it's just part of the system that like democracy is essentially just the least problematic option. These things require you to address weakness and balance factors. But Cristiano Ronald and other like him don't deserve any spite for it. You don't get mad or judgemental about people who aren't born disabled, do you? You might dislike when that aspect of the world works out negatively but you understand the luckier people aren't the problem. The difficult question here is how you even determine the value of employments when there are various different ways they can be valuable and the full impact is not always clear given degrees of complexity and abstraction. How do you really know how much something is worth until you compare life without it? How does a company know what they would make with two more or less of a kind of employee? These things aren't suited to polemical, emotional discussion. The way I see it put up or shut up as it were. It's easy to complain about bad outcomes but much harder to make a real argument about precisely what's real and how to fix it.

Please take the discussion of political economics / free-market-versus-socialism etc. to the thread @Iain Aschendale linked to above.

Thanks, Iain, for setting that up.
