See? My name doesn't correspond to me. It's Hebrew. This means that I have to read the Old Testament and care about the mythology behind it (I don't mean to offend anyone, but I'm not a believer nor Hebrew nor religious in any kind of way) which I don't. In greek it has no meaning. It's not as delightful of a name as that of a muse. I don't believe in greek mythology as well but it's more aesthetically beautiful from my perspective and the names do have meanings.
Well, Yahweh is the god of the Hebrews, who are derived from Abraham. The same Abraham was a prophet in Islam and given that Christianity derives from Judaism, keeping the same god, that means that Yahweh, Allah, The Lord, Jehovah, etc, are all the same dude. Which means that the name John, should still have meaning for like ~55% of the words population.
I I know. Ain't it lame? ETA: But in MY language, it doesn't have a meaning. That's what I mean. But even it has a meaning in a different language it still is not so fitting for me. It's like a promo moto for religion. Do you get my reasoning? It doesn't mean "Good looking" or "Little wing" or whatever that might describe me. It means that God is gracious. I am a human. Not a statement!
The religious part? Meh. I do think, though, that we should bring back the tradition of adopting new names as we go through life events. Sure, you could be born a plain old John, but you could die John The Boneless, or John the Trebuchet. I'd be Dapp the Parasol, 'cause how I throw shade.
What do you mean? Throw shade? Anyhow I came up with something of more epic proportions for you then. Why not... Dapp The Solar Eclipsor? That should throw some shade.
!!! I thought that your name was Oscar for so long. I feel deceived! I feel so used! Please tell me that Leigh is your surname.
In my re-enactment society, people's Medieval personas get given nicknames after incidents, which is always cool. One of our group was "Tristan Gryf", meaning "Tristan the Strong" after they broke an anvil and was later given the additional nickname "y Trichenybus", meaning "the Disaster", due to a pattern of hurting themself doing everyday things. (Admittedly, to someone specialising in hard craft, "everyday things" can include working with power tools, but still.) My nickname wasn't as good: I became "Efa y Hyfen" (meaning "the Cream") after covering myself in cream whilst making butter.
I revealed when I came here that Oscar Leigh is the name of the one of my main characters in a project I had. I'm no longer working on that project, but I like the username. And I could go back to it. It resembles in terms of Irish origin for both parts, and they sound vaguely similar. EDIT: I sit on a throne of lies.
What are you talking about? CREAM RULEZ! "Cream - get on top. Cream - you will cop-pah! Cream - Don't you stop. Cream - Shoo boogie bop!" It's the song Prince wrote for himself. How is that not cool af? Your story behind it is fun as well.
The Cream definitely sounds better than the Trump Wall. I stopped playing Magic: the Gathering for that reason. My deck spawns armies at the speed of thought, and by turn six I usually run out of space on the table, creating a wall of monsters between me and my opponent, hence Trump Wall.
That was one of the many names we had down for Hope before she was born. Then when she arrived, nothing suited her. She spent the first 4 days of her life nameless. The full list of possible names I forget, but we did have Veronica, Calliope, Persephone, Lorelei, Avelyn and Cordelia (she very nearly had that as a middle name). Eventually, she became Hope Thaddea Happiness. Her big sister is Sienna Samara Brianna. The first and third were my choice, and the middle her dad's. I refused Samara as a first name, because I didn't want people to call her Sam (which is what my not-so-nice sister goes by). Brianna was from my father, who died when I was 15. Neither of my girls are named after my mum, although you could say Brianna is to a point, as my mum's middle name is Ann.
My dad's family recycles names.... there are so many Ann's/Anna's/Annie's and Johns and Josephs. I have an aunt and uncle (twins) named Carole and Carroll. My dad's mom, though, is French Creole and her family all have French names
Yeah, but there goes my wall. I'm a DPS leech, not a spell-chucker. And I run red and black, not white. Beast in Black's debut album features several songs based on the anime Berserk
