    Using a Map

Discussion in 'Plot Development' started by Gryphonboy, Aug 15, 2011.

So, I'm elbow deep in the guts of my first 'book'. I have a world that my characters inhabit and have the bones of some decent characters that I can start fleshing out as the story progresses. I also have the overall arch that I want the story to follow. I am however getting a bit worried that I wont be able to hold all the plot threads together. What I really need is a decent map to help me keep track of places and I was wondering if anyone here knew of a decent but free tool to design a map with?

How about a tablet and stylus? You can draw it directly into your computer at that point. Or simply hire an illustrator?

I wouldn't know which ones to endorse anyway. Hopefully what I have suggested is alright though? If not feel free to delete it.

Can I ask why? Seems like a perfectly reasonable request.

Because that's the rule, and I think it's a good one. If that rule isn't there, we'd have people promoting stuff everywhere.

Really, if you want to make a map, draw it. With your hand. That's all you need to do for reference.

I was going to recommend a couple but the moderator's post said they wouldn't be permitted. You can find them yourself by Googling "free fantasy map making software".
