Aw. It seemed more exciting than that. Dude, a few months ago, Joel told me that his mom had asked him if she should get me a Kindle for Christmas. He told her no, I absolutely don't want one, and she was like "are you just saying that? Because that's always what you say when you're just blowing off something that I ask you." He assured her that he was being 100% truthful (which he was), and that was the end of it. Except that apparently she still wants to get me one, because she was just asking me if I wanted one, why I don't want one, why I dislike them...gah. Don't want a Kindle. Don't understand why she so badly wants to get me one even though she knows I don't like them.
Graciously accept it, then mail it to me. I'll write letters telling her how much I love it, sign your name at the bottom, and mail them off. Everyone wins.
Hahaha sounds good, Kyle. It's a plan. I just realized that it probably sounds really bitchy that I'm like "oh, my MIL wants to get me this great present, but I don't want it." It just seems silly that she wants to spend all that money on me for something I don't want/need...
Here is an example thank you letter: Dear Mother-in-law, Wow I cannot begin to express how AWESOME this Kindle is! I am really loving it. You are really super great for getting it for me. I never thought I would use something like this, but now I find myself carrying it around everywhere. I can even surf the internet off this bad-boy. All the girls on my roller derby team said they would be jealous if they ever read books. Speaking of which, I need to get back to reading Ulysses, it's really not as difficult of a read as people make it out to be! Love n kisses, Hiddennovelist
^Okay, you guys are too funny. I couldn't help but drop in. But don't forget, Kyle, that Hidden has already told her MIL that she doesn't want a Kindle. MIL might kinda get a sneaky suspicion. Especially with the "Love n kisses" line. But good note
Don't feel like you have to sneak in! This is an open forum for discussing the trials and tribulations of writers' personal lives. All are welcome and no subject is too taboo (within the limits of the forum rules, of course). That and me convincing hidden to accept and regift a kindle that she doesn't want and I don't need.
Siiigh. So so overwhelmed with work at the moment... *should be writing the last essay that stands between me and Christmas holiday, but I'm just exhausted* I spent the last week ill. *wishes I could spend more time on this forum*
When is the essay due, and what is it about? Maybe we can group write it, right here, in the tavern. >pulls up a stool and orders a virtual round<
Haha let's do it! Just don't tell the mods... And I think that's a great sample letter, Kyle. This idea is a winning one, methinks.
I'm leaving to go check into the second half of my research study. I have 'modified' my laptop to conceal the non-functional camera that is integrated to the screen. If the staff is not savvy, my laptop will be okayed for use inside and I will get some writing done. If they say no, I will play a lot of UNO in the coming two days. Wish me luck!
Haha good luck, Kyle, I hope it worked! I'm really glad that Joel and I completely rearranged our schedules so we could come down to Arizona at the same time that my cousins from Wyoming were coming down. I hadn't seen them in three years and was really excited, especially since my favorite cousin got married last year and I haven't met his wife, but apparently they weren't excited to see me. My entire extended family just blew me off for like two hours. It was awesome.
Haha yeah, I was being sarcastic. I'm pretty pissed at my family right now, but I'm trying not to be a huge downer about it. Not really succeeding, though... :/
^Aww, I'm sorry, Hidden. I can totally understand where you're coming from. I've had some not-so-great past occasions with my dad's side of the family. They ignored not only me, but my siblings and my mom. (raging bull about to let loose in a china shop) It does suck. And it hurts. But it's their loss, not yours. *hugs*
I'm curious at my cat's behavior. Whenever she gets on my lap when I type, she starts rubbing her face against the corner of the laptop. Does this mean anything? Or is it some silly strange thing that cats do?
That is normal cat behavior, yes. They like to be stroked and will seek satisfaction elsewhere if you're not up to the task.
Thanks. Apparently they're getting together again tonight, and when I told my brother why I didn't want to go he said I shouldn't get offended over nothing. I'm not offended, I'd just rather spend my time with people who want to see me. Hooray! Good job, Kyle.
^Your brother needs to take a breath and put himself in your shoes. You're not getting offended over nothing. And of course you want to spend time with people who want to see you! You scheduled your time perfectly so you and Joel could get to Arizona at the same time. . . I'm sorry, hidden.
Thanks for the sympathy, it's nice to know someone sees me side. We're hanging out with a cooler group tonight, so things are looking up! I don't think I've ever heard of that movie.
