Ha, if I'd think it would help I sure would, but I don't think it works with my parents. No, I just need to explain every little thing and let them first be upset at me and then tell them I must go.

    Exactly.

Just explain to them you know this person, and since your dad's been here a couple of times, you can ask him to come with you. Just schedule something that fits. Like perhaps a spring break or summer?

Well, I wish it was that simple. Unfortunately my dad wouldn't be able to because of his health. Well yeah, maybe my friend could... oh well, I'll see. I think the easiest would be for me to go alone (and really it's what I'd prefer), but I don't know if that'll go.

Good luck with telling your parents, and getting to Iowa. :)

If I had to tell my parents something like that, well, I just wouldn't. :p But they know I'm secretive so it's all good.

Lol, well, it would be kinda weird if I just disappeared from here suddenly, and they wouldn't know where I had gone to. :p
I guess it would have been easier if I had told them something earlier, but alas, I haven't done that, so it might be a bit harder now. But it has to happen, so yeah... Thanks. :)

That is true. Unless you left a note saying 'I've gone to Iowa to visit the guy I love'. :p Oooh, you could do a little trail of notes like starting off with 'Where's Lydia?' and then the next can be like 'She's gone on holiday' etc. Man, I really like that idea. It's like an easter egg hunt but with notes.

Considering that James T. Kirk comes from Iowa, I'm actually considering going over myself.

    What? I'm just saying...

^I have a niece who's from Iowa. The town she lives in is quite beautiful and really quaint.

So today I start my new part-time gig as a professional writer for hire. It's $50/page on this gig and should take no more than 3 hours, including research time. Not too shabby....

If there is a God, It has a wicked sense of humour. Some people in my situation would call it torment, but nonetheless.

I'd explain what happened, but it's complicated.

    Kyle - Great news.

well, the work is a little dishonest (academically) but as an English major I appreciate the irony involved. A guy is paying me to write a paper for him. He is a business major, and the paper topic is business ethics....

No wonder he won't do it himself.

Wish someone did my OH&S crap a while ago. Easy as pee, but boring, boring, BORING.

It's ONE page, double spaced, with 1" margins, and it's just the abstract for the paper. This is 30 mins of writing for $50. That seems like bad business to me (on his end anyhow). He set the price too, I would have done it for less.

^Dude, I used to "help" one of my friends write his papers...but I never had the sense to charge him. :/ Pretty sweet gig. ;)

Lydia, to convince your parents to let you go, you should make a Powerpoint presentation. I think it would work.

Or she could employ me to act as an advocate.

    £400 an hour, mind.

Lol, thanks for the offer, but I'm afraid I can't afford you. I'm gonna have to use my own convincing skills.

Tell them that Kyle Baker, who you have met online and who lives in Texas, says that it is totally safe to fly to wherever. :D

Just remember wear clean undies once you get state-side because we have got some invasive new 'security' at the airports :(

Why not fly your friend out of the states and have him meet you there? Then you don't have to travel at all!

    But... I'm trained... :p

Did I just wallop a side 8-1 in a cup final on Pro Evo and then wallop another side 8-0 in the league, with my striker hitting 7? Win.
