I'm sort of taking a break right now...to work on my statement of purpose. ;) I tried taking a real break earlier, but I feel guilty not being productive when I've got so much to do. :/

When I went to buy this book of vocab included on the GRE, they had it in book form for roughly ten dollars and in premade flashcards for almost double that. I was like "seriously? Who would pay for the flashcards when they could just get the book and make their own?" Yeah............wishing I'd bought the flashcards. ;)

Honestly, though, all this studying is kind of fun. I didn't realize how much I'd missed being in school.

You like studying? Ugh. Tests are the one thing I hate about school. I love to learn, but generally dislike school. College isn't so bad though; more of a focus on knowledge than high school and the like.

^Hope you're right. I just know it'll involve a lot more reading which won't be fun with less time between that and work. ugh.

Tests/exams was something I hated at school too. It was really annoying when you had been doing well throughout the year, but then your grade goes down a couple because of stupid exams that counted for 100% of your grade.

Tay, good luck with deciding what you want to study. I'm sure if you look through the courses available, one will stand out to you.

Link, I recall a sci-fi short story I encountered a while back, about Neanderthals. I think that one was from a standpoint of them being resurrected in the modern era through cloning. It was a pretty interesting premise.

I think it was a story I listened to, on a podcast. I'll see if I can find it for you.

I seem to remember that story actually too. I remember reading it on a print out, so it may have been on audio before that. I don't really know.

Link, I'd also watch a film called Man from Earth if you like the area around this subject. It's about a man who lived through the entire length of human kind. It's him telling the story to his friends he's about to leave. Low budget film, but extremely interesting and entertaining I thought.

Please do! I was actually considering writing a story about that! (Though the Neanderthal in question was a little girl they named Somme (who lived with a family in...you guessed it...Somme, France). They didn't actually try to resurrect the entire group. She was just a test to see if she could endure modern society and live as if she were a human child. If successful, then the other Neanderthals would be cloned back to life.)

PM me when yu find it.

I think I know which story you mean. It also popped up in a couple of 'Year's Best' anthologies, if it is the one I'm thinking of.

Just managed another 700 words of the dissertation, now a grand total of under a hundred words away from completing the chapter. Almost up to 9,000 words. One chapter and a conclusion to go!

Frederik Pohl's Beyond the Blue Event Horizon also features a tribe of Neanderthals aboard an automated space factory.

    "N-Words" by Ted Kosmatka?

It's in the Escape Pod archives,if anyone wants to listen to it for free. I can't remmber when it was (and can't easily check it on my Kindle), but it shouldn't be too hard to find. And it's quite a good story, as I recall.

And good news on the diss. My plans are to finish my family law essay tonight (God, I'll be glad when that's done. Studying domestic violence is almost as harrowing as studying rape), then tomorrow get 500-1,000 words done on the next chapter of my dissertation.

@ Link. Go for it! I'd like to read a story about Neanderthals. I must admit though, I'm much more fascinated by the concept of intelligent dinosaurs. >.>'

Ugh! Why am I so tired? I didn't do anything yesterday that should have worn me out. I wanted to spend a lot of time working on my book today but I am so very drained I'm having troubles focusing. I couldn't do anything last night either, I just passed out. -_- *grump*

That's the one. Pops up in David Hartwell's Year's Best from a couple of years back, didn't know Escape Pod did it.

I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to do for my undergrad degree, too. I think I'm more excited about going back to school now because I've been waiting three years to go back for my graduate degree.

Haha I love studying! If I could just go to school for the rest of my life, I totally would.

That happens to me sometimes, it's really frustrating. Maybe if you took a little power nap you would feel better?

I completely agree. Now that I'm coming to the end of my undergraduate degree, I'm realising just how much I've enjoyed studying for it. I just love learning new things, and being able to analyse and explore new ideas. If I could afford to do a masters, believe me I would.

Yeah, I'm stoked to finally be in a position where I can afford to go back. College was stressful, of course, and I thought when I graduated I would be excited, but I was actually kind of bummed that it was over. I can't wait to go back. :D

Spring is finally here. I'm so happy. . . .I went outside because it's such a beautiful day out and took a picture of a lonely daffodil in our yard.

Thanks. I figured it out though. I dunno why I can never remember but I always get tired like that when I'm getting sick. Everytime I seem to ask myself why I'm so tired when I got a lot of sleep and then start to feel sick. Then I remember. Heh, my memory sucks!

So just a bit under the weather, doesn't seem to serious-like. Hope I can rest enough to keep it that way. I always seem to get this way when I finally have some time to relax... I wonder if my immune system takes a break too? Silly immunoglobulins.

'Tis funny how the mind works...

All this time, it's never occured to me to write a book set in the 1950s. After all, what's not to love about it? The music...the clothes...it's awesome!

Off to plan out the book.

Library Science with a concentration in information organization. :)

Aw, I hope you get feeling better soon. Sometimes I think being just a little sick is worse than being really sick...it seems to last longer, and it makes me feel really lazy.

Really? It's not like that for me... When I get sick, I usually get hit pretty hard and can last near a week. If I can stave it off by taking it easy and sleeping a lot, it usually only lasts a day or two.

I feel better after eating dinner. I'll be hitting the shower soon and that usually helps me feel better too. Maybe my immune system woke up and wore me out trying to fight off whatever it was and now it's nearly done? Dunno. Hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow. I have a lot of things I need to get done.

The 60s are by far my favorite decade. Music, clothes, all the sweeping changes around the world and in the US that were going on... it's a time I'd liked to have seen.
