I'm not saying that the UK never made a big deal of race -- it's still an issue here and I've become more aware of it since I've been married to a non-white woman and have seen what she goes through. But we seem to respond in a different way. I remember hearing Janis Ian saying how she'd been puzzled when Society's Child failed to make any impact at all in the UK, until she came here and saw interracial couples walking along the street. It wasn't just that, she said. It was the fact that nobody was staring at them. For all the racial problems and tensions we have, what we've never had is segregation on any significant scale. So although "first black person to do job x" has often been newsworthy (because in more prejudiced times it had been assumed that black people were not capable), interracial kissing (and more) doesn't seem to have been.

Woo! Exams are over! And I'm watching England play Test cricket for the first time in 5 years! (OK, so it's only Bangladesh we're playing, but still, it's great watching cricket of the highest calibre again).

    Hey everyone!

Guess what? At another fourm, we were just discussing random things until the conversation turned to disabilities. I briefly mentioned that I was writing a story about a blind character and, before I knew it, a blind user PMed me saying, "I think it's great you want to do this. Why don't you PM me questions about blind people, I'll do the best to help you, and it'll help flesh out your blind character and make him more realistic."

So, for the past few days I've asked her questions and she was more than happy to reply.

That's pretty lucky, Link. It's not always easy to get in touch with people who can advise you that way.

Music is probably one of the few things that can unite us in this ever-changing world.....

I actually find quite the opposite. The divisions are setting us a part more and more. Groups of the like become better connected than ever before, but those outside mix less and less. Not to be a kill joy here, but it's what I've noticed.

I've been able to talk to people from other places of the world about music and sports (those are the 2 main things), and they're very good in bringing people together. I especially remember the Olympics as being uniting.

Observation: It is not a good idea to eat next to nothing all day and then at the end of the night drink an energy drink to try and keep yourself awake for the rest of your shift. I feel like I'm going to pass out.

In better news, though, I leave for Vegas in eight hours. :)

That's really cool. :) I'd do the same if someone needed to know about spinal cord issues. :p I think accuracy in things like that is vital if you want the reader to take it seriously.

I've got Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, and Queens of the Stone Age on my phone. I've had other artists at other times though.
Trampled Underfoot is still my generic ringtone.

On my phone I have some from: Bedouin Soundclash, Tool, Eric Johnson and Alice in Chains.

I would state the actual songs but I can't remember right now; though my ringtone is Shelter by Bedouin Soundclash.

    Great band.

Haha, yeah, Business Time is my favorite song by them. Especially the live version.
I also like Demon Woman a lot.
