Cog, It's a wonder I'm allowed to open my mouth anymore.

Lemex, I have a feeling your girlfriend and I would make great chums.

I'm back, guys! To answer someone's question about what kind, I shoot a .22 and a 9 (similar to a Glock).

I fully support the individual's right to bear arms. If someone tries to break into my apartment and rape me, I can fend for myself (and possibly save my life or someone else's). Also, outlawing/restricting them will only ensure that the lawbreakers and tyrants have guns while the law-abiding citizens are defenseless. Stats have shown that towns with high gun ownership rates are the safest. :)

    I shoot dirty looks.

I jnow how to handle guns, but I do not own any. I do have training in a few forms of martial arts, and the weapon I do keep on hand is a straight baton. It is a waepon I can use very effectively, but can also defend myself against should it fall into an intruder's hands.

And it is very effective in close quarters.

It also doesn't hurt that I am 6'4". Not too many people want to pick a fight with me. So I can afford to remain confidently calm and quiet in volatile situations.

You misunderstood me. Staple guns are my weapon of choice. Look out. Staple gun.

Gigi, being verbally direct is a great thing. Assertiveness is so important. Yet so many choose to be passive-aggressive, two-faced backstabbers who will act nice to your face and then trash talk you if you don't get their subtle little hints. (People well into their 20s do this!!). So while fighting is never preferable, being able to hold your ground verbally is a great asset to have. I've always pegged you as the legit, honest type of person. :D

You're tough, you command respect, so no, no sane person's gonna want to pick a fight with you.

Me? Well, I look small, people think I look like a young boy most of the time, so if a volatile situation came up, my strategy is: "Duck and run".

I do have a BB gun and a sword from a Medieval festival shop that came from a stack of weapons they claimed were real. The sword's kinda heavy, but the blade is not sharp. I know, it's for obvious safety reasons, but I doubt they were actually selling real, bonified medieval weapons.

  15. Girl! I know people in their 60's who do this! People of EVERY age do this. Drives me batty. (But I agree with the rest :) )

I just realized that in three days, it'll be the 118th anniversary of the Lizzie Borden murders. For those who don't know, it's alleged that on 8/04/1893, she took a hatchet to her dad and step-mom. No one knows who did it and she was aquitted despite all the evidence that seemed to finger her as the culprit.

Anyone have any famous unsolved cases they're interested in?

Not a case per-say, but I wrote a sonnet in high school about a local ghost story that gets a bit of attention whenever I show it around.

About a woman who lived in a nearby castle, Creswell Tower, who watched her lover murdered by her brother. She flung herself over the battlements and to her death because she couldn't live without him. There is a legend that on foggy nights you sometimes see this woman still searching the area for her dead lover's body.

    Here is the sonnet:

We have a brand new unsolved murder. Eleven year old Celina Cass of northern New Hampshire, two miles from the Canadian border, has been missing for a week. They just found her body today in a river, next to a dam, half a mile from her house. Her death is considered suspicious, and her house is now treated as a crime scene. Details about the condition of her body have not been released to the public.

That's terrible. Probably a sex-assault-motivated kidnapper. Hope he gets brought to justice quickly.

That's awful. I hope what happened is discovered quickly, and any guilty party is caught.

Hello everyone! Joining the Wayfarer's Tavern for the first time in almost a year. :) Just finished reading Candide, and the previous posts seem to accentuate Voltaire's satire.
I hope they resolve this soon. Though nothing can be done for the girl at this point, hopefully her relatives will find some peace of mind with the case closed.
