Just right frustrating at the moment. Anyone who gets a job, good luck to you. Gone for one as a circuit advocate doing mortgage repossession hearings. You never know...
^ It's the vicious circle of not having experience and not being able to get experience because you have none. :/ Thanks, I'll need it. Haha. Indeed, you never know.
I really want to do an MA in publishing, but I don't know how you get grants for these things, or how you apply/research for them. On the plus side I have a whole year left, so I can save money from my new job once I get started on it. I might be able to fund the MA myself.
Wish I had an extra year to think about what I'm doing or get experience. It's late summer, and I feel like I should be doing my preliminary reading on my modules for the year and ringing people up to catch up on what's been going on ahead of my return to Newcastle. Talking to one of my former housemates this morning has just exacerbated this feeling.
^ Can you live with a relative for that extra year, so you can focus on polishing your resume and getting experience and job-hunting while not having to worry about rent (or paying a minimal amount to chip in with their rent instead of handling your own)?
I'm home now, with my parents. It's not like I have major money issues or anything like that. I just A) want something to do and B) want to go back to uni. I miss the place.
I've considered doing an MA but I think I'm going to take some time out. Can you ask uni about the grants stuff? Head of department, or if you have a careers thingy? Same. I can't wait to go back so I'm actually doing something.
^ Well I'm thinking about doing it at a different uni, actually. The one I'm looking at sounds amazing and apparently they're well renowned for their publishing MA...So basically I guess I'd have to ask them, but I don't think I'll be in much luck. I don't think they offer funding for people with creative undergraduate degrees...Or do they?
They should really offer you funding. Checked student finance? Asked the uni you're planning on going to? You could probably ask the uni you're at. I have no idea about MA funding and stuff though.
I did know, but I've forgotten what you call it. I don't think it's student finance, but I could very easily be wrong.
Oh if you search 'funding for ma uk' on Google, then the second result is a directgov page telling you about funding postgraduate study with links and stuff.
Speaking of schools and such, I'm visiting UW-Madison this weekend. Nervous and excited! I've been there before and it's definitely my first choice.
There's this really cool place on campus called The Terrace, which overlooks one of the two lakes the college is between. It's a pretty iconic place, especially the chairs.
Definitely. It's especially nice to swim after you've walked up and down State Street for a few hours.
