I'm glad you have those sentiments toward sex predators, FX. So many people these days treat it like a light issue.

Yeah, i get really upset when i hear about kids getting taken from sex predators, because i feel like the person who did such a horrible thing to a child should be hunted down and arrested- no exceptions. I get really nervous when i see a kid walk alone after school, cause im reminded by all the awful incidents of kids walking home and to never been seen again.. the thought of it would make me realize i would never let my kid in the future walk home after school- ever.

I meant shiver me timbers. I don't really know what that means? What the hell are your timbers?

Or they feed off the paranoia of it as well.

Don't get me wrong. Sexual predators can be a real thing and there will be bound to be some in our lifetimes preying on people. However, there are some programs and even people feeding off of these woman's fears to get these scared poor woman's wallets into their pockets.

Not all of it is scams. However, people prey on people's fears. And there have been some people to prey on poor young woman's fears of wanting to be safer on the streets.

That's odd. Anyone who would pay money to a program thinking it would make them less likely to be assaulted is very naive (unless it's a self-defense class or something along those lines).

Vigilance is up to the individual, no program can help you there.

My solution is simple: go out and buy a raging bull. Nobody's gunna mess with you if you're packing a raging bull in your purse. You'd need one big purse though.. :I

FYI - the Raging Bull he is referring to is a revolver.

Admin, you should be a bit clearer with your references. Same thing happened with your Detour thread.

That's what makes it more intimidating and creepy about them. That's why American Most Wanted was made. The guy who created the show's son was taken by somebody in that category. They found his son dead not too long after. Now i think the show stopped running, but it might come back in the future.

I like seeing people write about fighting evil, and promote it out there to stop the awful things that happen everyday and bring justice to the world.

I'd rather buy a real, live raging bull, though...does it have to be the revolver to keep me safe?

You want a ton or more of enraged beef and horns in your pocket?

    That's a lot of bull!

I believe it was an expression referring to the way a ship "trembles" or "shivers" during a storm. :)

Your timbers are your structural supports, i.e. your bones. "Shiver me timbers," means shaking right down to the bones.

I like that interpretation better. It sounds more dramatic. :)

Morning all. I'm still deciding what to do with my day. I want to edit a story, but beyond that, I'm not sure.

I was deciding what to do today too but just got an email saying we (as in people who go to my uni) can apply for the job of library helper. I guess I'll be working on my cover letter today and trying to make my CV more appealing. I really hope I get it but everyone's going to apply so it's like yeahhh, unlikely.

Sounds awesome. So far today I've sent a complainy letter to my local MP (which I'll bet you anything she ignores- our dear Home Secretary doesn't seem to be answering my letters any more. It's not gonna stop me writing them, mind).

Now for a day of job hunting and editing. And possibly some writing. I've got an idea for a story which I've tried and failed to write twice previously. Maybe third time is the charm?
